Hi all... just a generic thought and question...

Dry trimming ... It takes me about a one hour to process 2 ounces of cannabis to trimmed bud...

Using a pair of shears and bare knuckles.

I have no clue... whether this is average or what....

What are your times?

Doing what your doing is fine. There's no time limit on doing a good job. I have bowl trimmers but I pick what goes in there, mostly larf, popcorn. I like to hand pick the decent buds and trim them to perfection. There's something to be said about the bag appeal.

Okay... so far... two power weed wacker users... So I'm guessing they both grow a little more than a pound at a time...

SOOOOOOoooo .. any of "US" guys that just grow about a pound at a time (or less) ... using just scissors?

And who's responsible for this contraption:

I did 2 plants the other day it was probably a half pound. I played around with a brush and scissors and my fingers. I spent more time just using the fingers. When I was doing the scissors I popped off more of the buds than I wanted on some i big buds that I wanted to be impressive with in pics. I also kept coming across buds I absolutely had to show the wife and then smoke. That had to have happened at least a dozen times across the 2 plants and it probably took me 9 hours? 8oz in 9 hours....were pretty close!

It took me 4 hours last night to trim 3.25 ounces, I wasn't really rushing though neccesarily it always takes me forever though I just did a wet trim on another one of my plants and it took me like 4-5 hours but I was interrupted a few times.

I use only scissors, my most recent harvest was 553.47 grams (19.77 ounces) from 3 plants and it took me about 16 hours to trim it, the foliage was pretty thick for this grow so there was quite a bit to remove.
That's about 1.25 ounces per hour.

I can trim quicker, just depends on how much foliage the plants had and how particular I'm being.

I just bought a trim tray not long ago, I didn't get it until I was about done with my last harvest.
It did make me it a lot more comfortable for me to trim on the couch, I could lay back with the tray on my lap instead of being hunched over a table.
The trim tray definitely sped me up some.

While doing some research on trimming cannabis... found interesting stuff below:

Today: https://www.indeed.com/q-marijuana-trimmer-jobs.html

13 YEARS AGO ON THCFARMER :

How much do you pay your trimmers?

I'm just curious to see what some of the commercial dispensaries pay their trimmers. Obviously, I'm not interested in what you pay someone to run an auto trimmer. Do you guys pay by the hour, or by a set price for X amount of weight. What is the standard? 10 bucks an hour?
www.thcfarmer.com

Anyone else who trims by hand?

I use hand trimmers and it takes me around an hour per Oz. , depending on my trimming/ watching TV ratio. A full time job just trimming bud would be torture. I wouldn't make it through the first day.

I Harvest the plants, spend about 4 hours trimming all the fan leaves and cutting back most the sugar leaves, but I leave it on the stem and hang it for a week, then spend another 2 hours trimming it and placing it in the jars, I have about 5 pairs of scissors, they don't last long until they get covered in resin, so in total, 6 hours to trim 18 oz's if the plants grown well 15 cola's off a few plants, untrained scrog with 60 stems could take me 10 hours.

Production people or trimmers at the giant weed farm I'm at get paid around $23.00hr. Full time is considered 32 hours. Full medical paid. Here's the catch. There's not always weed to buck and trim. Most of it is done with the machine. They do what ever needs to be done but they get sent home with no gaurantee of hours. Most of em are total stoners and don't care. But if you are an adult and have bills, that's not how I want to live. I prefer a salary.

Jimmie... that's one hell of a bright green plant.... species?

I went from 2 small snips that most of us use.. after two harvests.. they don't feel right after a while.. and have been using these:

The larger scissors fit best in my hand for longer use... the truth be told about an hour at a time and I go nuts... I go for 3 hours .. spread out in a day... some times two... got about a week invested so far...

Below is my staging tent... in my humidity controlled room kept at 61% humidity (+- 1%) through the whole drying and the per-cure process that I came up with.

I fill the brown bags no more than 1/2 filled with processed buds... each individually monitored.. which I invert daily to redistribute the buds .. and close the bags when humidity is to low (60)

Hanging dried plant are shortened and put in red container... the white bag on the left is for processed material... I stopped saving trim this harvest... as more than likely I have more pot then I could ever intake..

After which I will go to a large counter area with a real comfortable high boy office chair and process buds.... still... can only handle about an hour.

This grow I process all under a bright light.. to spot any mold / fungus... something I didn't have to worry about in my other grows..

Consistently after an hour of trimming I turn up exactly the same amount ... give or take a few grams... I treat it as a job... thinking...well somebody's got to do it.... you know what I mean?

Well their goes my hour of trimming I had set aside for tonight....

Interested in seeing what procedures you guys come up with... in processing your harvest... hoping to learn some hacks, tricks and short cuts... and yeah... If I grow outside again next year... I'm going to make some contraption like the guy above did..

Well finally... I'm done.... I didn't count the hours... cause it was the most boring hours of my whole life.... and least what I can remember for the past few months....

Even though I had problems... ( and I do mean problems) with my outside grow... I managed to salvage a few ounces...

Thanks for sharing, I am going to buy a Commercial Extractor Fan you fix to a wall, its perfect, the back of the fan has a 4" deep vent pipe on the back that would sit in a round tall mixing bucket, motor looks sealed on the top, fans easy to take apart and clean, may need to replace the top part of the cage but that should be easy, this will save me hours when I chop my next crop.
