Thanks to everyone who replied!

Dabpress is what I seen coming up everywhere when searching, I'll check them out and post what I come up with.

As far as decarb, do most of you just use an oven or something?
I seen Ardent and STX decarb machines, seems to make it easier then other methods but doesn't mean it's any good.
Anyone use either of these?

@GNick55

Your laughter at this post was definitely accurate,
Once I looked up the reviews for the Ardent FX, I found its just a $300 device made to fail and ruin your bud/material.

I went ahead and made a decision and purchased the following,

- 12 Ton Bottle Jack Press
- Accessory Bundle
- 2x4 Pre-Press

I eneded up deciding on the 12 ton because for $50 more then the 8 ton you get 1200 watts and 4 heating rods vs 600 watts and 2 heating rods.
12 ton also has 4"x7" plates vs 3"x7" plates the 8 tons has.
12 ton has top legs for Driptech, 8 ton does not.

With the 15% discount and bundle options, it was like I bought the press and only paid $13 for the Accessory Bundle and 2"x4" pre-press.

Once I receive it, I'll start a thread showing me learning and using it.
Can't wait!

What should I consider when choosing equipment for cannabis extraction?

This all depends on how serious you are and how premium an end product you wish to achieve.

A Buchner funnel and assortment of filter paper is a definite asset for a quality concentrate. Anything that cant be glass, use stainless steel. Try not to use any plastic anywhere.

I went all out and basically now have a personal home canna-lab. But a good quality extract can be had on the cheap.

If you plan on making extracts frequently, I would highly suggest a Buchner Funnel, vacuum flask, and vacuum pump to start. Then for distillation, a Source Turbo.

You want to do every step of the processes at the lowest temperatures possible. This includes sub zero extraction. This will yield the most flavorful extract.

Awesome congrats on your purchase. I’ve had best luck with flower that was just finished drying. Pressed in 37 micron bags.

Good to know!
Just finished trimming some so once everything arrives, we will see what happens!
I'll probably press some older stuff as well.
I've read that the rosin tends to come out darker if it's older bud, is that true?

In the accessory bundle, it comes with a variety pack of filter bags with 5 each of 37, 90, 120, and 160.
I had no idea what micron I would need the most of so I didn't buy any extra above that.
I'll start with the 37 like you suggest, thanks!

Do you just use the dabpress branded bags or have you tired others?
If so, any to stay away from?

What's your process for preparing your flower?
Do you grind it or leave it in buds?
Do you use a pre-press?

Do you usually use your press vertically or do you lay it down and drip?
Do you find the bottle jack harder to use when it's horizontal?

Appreciate any tips and tricks!

GOLD!
I would love to have my way with about an OZ of some pressed gold. First I would take a blast of the raw product. then do my thing with the rosin and have another blast! Just to compare.

starting at 160 would be my suggestion. You'll get the best yield but it will have some contaminant. My guess is your going to put some fire to that asap so purity will be when you take the rosin and process it into carts etc. larger the micron number = larger the hole in the mesh

I use the dulyteks bags from Amazon. I just cram about a 1/4 in a bag. I fold the parchment so if surrounds the filter bag so the rosin can only go one way. I press the packed bags standing up vertically in the press. With the 4 ton j have to give it everything it has. So i keep the press standing up. I usually press at 185 degrees. I’m sure there is a magic number for the amount you press and the pressure and temp.

What is everyone using for parchment paper?

Can I just get a roll from my local store or do I need to find something specific or with certain thickness?
Does anyone recommend a brand of pre-cut sheets or rolls from Amazon or somewhere else online?

I'm assuming I want unbleached, though I see most people pressing with white parchment so that makes me think it's bleached

What size do you cut your parchment to?

I use the pre cut Reynolds’s I cut the sheets in half and fold a pouch. Tear the sides so the top flap can flip up.

Pedro is one of the best hash makers in the world. But he has a freeze dryer and a cold room.

It's supposed to be here tomorrow, probably won't do anything with it till the weekend.
I'm just going to try and press some of everything I have, new and old lol.
I know there's some strains better for it then others, I'll have to research that and start growing some.

@GNick55 hash thread is excellent and very detailed with all the information to make my own so my next purchase will be a 5 gallon bubble wash machine.

there has been comparisons made from the same batch of weed that was bubble washed and half was freezed dried and half was air dried, the air dried pressed better etc, hence i’m thinking the pressure in freeze drying shrinks the heads a bit?
just a guess,..

Thanks for the tips! How quickly can you see a difference in extract quality if you start with a Buchner funnel and vacuum pump?

You will see a major difference in the end product compared to using just coffee filters.

Also, using a Buchner funnel will allow you to inexpensively use different filter mediums such as DE and carbon. In my opinion, those are two most important filter mediums. Combining those two mediums into your filtering process will yield a night and day difference in quality.

I received the press today and I know I said I was going to wait until this weekend but I couldn't lol.
I pressed some Rainbow Belts x Okie that's a couple months old.
Returned about 10%, no idea what average is.

We took a couple dab hits and the most noticeable thing for us was how smooth it was.
Any kind of dabs we've bought came from a reservation dispensary, have purchased various brands/types and they all seem to be a little rough and make us cough a bit. We don't generally smoke dabs because of this, the smoothness from the self pressed rosin was a pleasant surprise.

Try pressing the bag vertically in stead of horizontal.

Toaster ovens work great keep a very even temp and you can take them outside to use so house doesn't smell

I buy them used from 2nd hand stores $5-10 and check with a thermometer.
