should fan leaves stay or go? the fan leaves that have no bud sits can i cut those even now being 58 days into flowering?

I see no point in taking leaves that are not dead, if the plant doesn't want them it will let it die.

But the EARTH moves and the plants adjust though the day to the light, so if you light does NOT move and the leaves in question are not getting light they should die off by them selfs, its a hard question, some say cut to give more light, others say not to damage the plant during productive times

A lot of debate here..leave em, systematically remove them on a schedule, remove them every day. Personally, I say leave em..unless theyre over 50% damaged, per the BIBLE. Those leaves have things in them that your plant is storing for later use..when you remove them youre stealing food and energy from your daughters. Also, your plant is constantly in recovery mode if your thinning out her leaves daily. Leave em..tuck em if theyre blocking bud sites.

I keep my girls cleaned up at the bottom. I cut the lower bud sites as they aren't worth messing with and the fan leaves go as well. The plant looks cleaner and I believe the colas are bigger at the top. I don't do this after week 3 about the time they top out. I have seen nothing but good results from doing this.

I remove a very small amount of fan leaves, and only the ones that dont look happy! There is a article on this at jorgecervantes.tv check it out

yep...Only cut the dieing ones

Ken, what about a real bushy plant? Doesn't that keep air from circulating that could cause fungus and mold?

You should have enough fans in there for that if not add two ! Plus if the humidity level are correct you "shouldn't" have to worry about that as much .

Leave all good fan leaves ,damaged ones remove ,tie back others that are blocking light

I was taught to "finger prune" my fans during the first 21 days/stretch phase. I do that and then clean up again around 35 days in. Sometimes i pull whole fans around 49 days which is usually my flushing time on the 9 weeks strains i run.

I think fan pruning is really strain dependent so you need to be careful with how much you take off, AND when you take them off. A good rule i go by is to never pull whole fans before 21-28 days in

Here's a gdp that i finger pruned at day 7

Purp 9 days prune

Busy strains really need it if the leaf is blocking bud sites. For the bottom leaves I cut what im going to the first 2 weeks, after that they stay unless they are dying, I leave the lower ones to pick up the light that gets threw when I take fans from the top. I see people take all the fans off the bottom because they pull easy and then dont touch the top ones that should come off.
Like BURR said it really depends on strain, size of your plant, how many tops you have, timing, ect. I tend to pull a few off each plant the first few weeks, and the last few weeks, lol
