Just wanted to give everybody a heads up. It's a full moon and the caterpillars are starting their breeding cycle. The most effective way to minimize caterpillar damage is to spray during these breeding cycles. BT or Spinosad will do. Good luck everybody.

Yep, that's what I use;
and OG Biowar/Cap's Bennies--
which contains both of 'em too...

You can also plant trap crops, colored corn varieties seem to work best. :)

I say alternate the Bt with Spinosad, too. And please be careful about the time of day you apply spinosad.

The bugs have to eat the Spinosad, so the best time is in the evenings. However, that could effect beneficial insects as well. Wait till the bees go to bed, then spray. I find around 7:30 pm in my area works great for starting to spray. Takes several hours for me.

The only real problem I have are flea beetles but they're not bad this year. I do have ants in my soil but they don't seem to be bothering anything. Girls got a dose of OG bio war tea today. Better late than never.

I try to keep the ants away--
'cause they farm aphids on the plants...

The more posts made, the more this refreshes in the new posts. This threads purpose was short and sweet, so don't worry about it. :)

As for how late in the season, I like to spray 2 weeks out from harvest. I prefer Spinosad at that point to most BT products, and I spray super light.

Any taste from the Spinosad? I can never dectect a taste, but I spray light. I have read that others complain of the taste.

I don't like the smell of Bt,
so I use it the first half of "worm" season;
and Spinosad for the last half--
with no noticeable taste/smell...

I alternate because I don't want anything to build resistance.
