yeah, i think a electric rig would be better, id find a way to9 burn my self im sure. hah.

i do want to start knife smiting again tho when i get better ( they have ovens to temper steel, instead of doing it by eye and the forge which is useful for some making knifes, grinders or forge lots of ways to skin a cat i guess ), so that is why knife smithing came to me ). i do enjoy beating metal. good fun exercise and you get to create something useful. heh.

that is something i could still do, you can sit down to beat steel if my leg gets worse.

Sounds like a cool hobby. I got all kinds of knives. This is one of my favs. I take it camping and when I go to the river. Gotta be careful, I cut myself pretty good with it one time on the saw teeth on the top.

@Srenots both of my Hyper Cherry Pies ended up :mushtache:. I won't get to flower it this time. Oh well I still have more. I'll get one next time and my buddy down the street ended up with females so I can also get a cut from him. The White Widow x C99 is fem for sure, she has hairs coming in all over. She manifolded up nicely.

nice, i like a bit more wood in my handles. i have some pretty wood in teh shop for such, also the local desert iron wood makes a killer handle. id need to find a homie with a chunk for sure.. but i got local meskeet already. heh.. metal working, wood working, and leather working are the required skills of well rounded knife smith i think. i even have a little printer thing that prints my logo onto metal.. via electricity. not really a printer but you know what i mean.

it is a fun hobby. and i use to love camping, i need to get a tent and a bag. yeah camping is a lot of fun. i like being out side, as i hate the city. im not a city boy i guess.. which is fine.. they have enough of them already laughs.

i still have a box of wrought iron i have hung onto. its really old, hah.. they do not make it anymore.. but it forges like butter.. i like it to make sam mai knifes.. which is just hard steel with soft steel forged to the outside.. think samurai sword same thing basically. different method of course.. but yeah soft/hard e best of both works.. and then you etch the steel with vinegar and gives it a pattern weld look.. visually pleasing and also makes the knife bullet proof if forged and heat treated carefully.

Yeah, that's cool shit. I remember seeing a show where they said a samurai sword could chop a regular sword in half. Something to do with their secret method of forging or something. Like you said it has softer layers so it won't break or shatter. There was another show where they challenged people to make knives out of certain pieces of metal. One guy used a railroad spike and made a nice blade from it.

Good idea! I'll have to try it. I'm thinking of making another small box with a filter and fan in it and dumping all my exhaust into it for double filtration.

Thanks bro. Yeah, I'll be growing it next time (9 weeks from now) and I'll probably get a cut of the Cashmere 99. He says it smells incredible.

yeah, i have made a few railroad spike style knives, actually i have a tackle box out side full of the damn things. they make nice gifts for people who do not use knifes laughs. anyhow, they make better letter openers than working knifes because the metal is soft.. wont hold a edge for long. but if you had a whetstone stone, and needed to gut a deer it would get the job done.. better than using a stick thats for damn sure lol.

with that said, to get the most out of one ( railroad spike ) use salt water. by using a brine solution to quench the blade, this will get your metal as hard as you will be able to get it in your back yard.. you can even quench that blade a second time. which is what i would do.

yeah, im deaf getting back into making knifes when i get healthy, i really like it. :D functioning art i guess is how i looked at them, when i was healthy enough to hammer one out.

you could even put bio char in them, same method of the char coco, thats what it is,just chared coco,it got the glaze and the ting when you drop it should have a glass sound,,i got another filter that you can flip ends on it,just swap the top and bottom piece, the filter only use half of the closet side to it

I've never made a knife, but I've spent quite a bit of time trying to learn to sharpen them. I can get it pretty sharp, but I know I suck because I used to work with a guy who was a butcher before and could sharpen any knife to razor sharp quickly. Everyone in the building would bring him their knives to sharpen. I asked him how he did it and he told me to act like you're taking a slice out of the arkansas stone and do it even number of times on each side. I've achieved razor sharp quite a few times, but not consistently.

yeah. that is another skill ill have to re-learn, sharpening. hah.

its funny how much data i had in my head. hopefully, i can relearn whatever i pick back up with out to much problems.. lots of fragments, but the memories are thar so with just doing it, i bet ill learn much faster.

at least i have the desire to learn again, i lost that on pills. :(

but that will require me giving a shit, which in return means i need to get healthy. but with time we see what happens, maybe ill get healthy and become sorta normal again hah.

who am i joking,i was dropped on my head one to many times i think.

bowl up! for sho!

@Srenots. So I gave my homie 3 beans of each, but he had been having a hard time getting anything to germinate at the time so I think user error came into play. On germination he got 3 cashmere99 (2 male one female) 1 hyper cherry pie (female) and zero hyper glue. I put in two hcp's and they both germed fine so IDK. The ones he's growing are looking great! I'm definitely getting cuts.
