Plenty of good folks here are happy to help out if you need it. Here's my 2¢

Tip #1: Don't overdo anything. Start by using 20% less of whatever you think you need.

Tip #2: Don't top them. Use any other training method you think you can handle, but keep the scissors away for now.

Tip #3: See tip #1.

As a first time grower everything is all new to me and im just after some advice tip or any knowledge is greatly appreciated.
