First Grow Week 7/8 yellow leaves

Hello everyone, currently in the 7/8th week for these 4 autoflowers. I used foxfarms happy frog soil with the foxfarms wholly mackeral fish fertilizer for nutrients which is a 3-1-0 ratio. Tbh all the different nutrient ratios confuse me. I don’t know whether I over or under fed them or if they’re wanting more magnesium entering flower stage? The bottom leaves started slowly showing light green which turned to yellow with dry tips. I took the lower yellow ones off. After reading online of similar problems I purchased some cal-mag from amazon which is arriving tomorrow. Should I add some cal-mag since I haven’t added any all grow? Also just wondering has anyone tried growing autoflowers using no nutrients just water for feeding? Thanks ahead of time

Your plant looks like it needs more nutrients, to me.

The nutrient ratio is the percentage of nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K). These are macronutrients. Magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca), on the other hand, are micronutrients. A 3-1-0 ratio has 3% N, 1% P and 0% K. I use 4-4-4 for the vegetation stage and 2-8-4 for the flowering stage, along with a few other nutrients. Generally speaking, vegetation needs more N and flowering needs more P & K. So, a nutrient change probably would help your plant.

It looks N deficient, too. The plant is flowering, however, so it won't be creating many new leaves. A good blooming nutrient ratio would help.

These plants seem to need plenty of Mg when they're grown under LED lights. (At least, that's my take on it.) I use Epsom Salt (MgSO4) as my source of Mg. There are other options. Mg is critical for creation of chlorophyl, which is what makes plants green. Yellowing of the leaves between the veins is usually a sign that a plant needs more Mg. Other deficiencies can cause yellowing, but it will look different. Adding 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salt to your water would probably help your plant.

Your plant would like it. I don't use it, because I add Mg and Ca separately. CalMag products make assumptions about what's already in the water and soil.

I can't think of any reason to starve a plant, except I usually stop feeding near the end of flowering. My experience with autoflowers is they like plenty of nutrients.

Thank you for this amazing advice! You have saved my grow! I've grown a love for my plants so its painful to watch them suffer with these deficiencies. I ordered the correct nutrients and have fed them, just waiting for the effects to show.

Interesting, so whether auto or photo they show a deficiency going into bloom. I've been wanting to grow my first photo period but was afraid the plant would out grow my closet or even back yard space but after reading you can control when they flower I figure I'll just veg until they reach a decent height then switch to 12 hours of light. Good luck with your grow!
