First grow. Plants seem to be doing good I guess not sure since this is my first grow. I did top the plants a couple weeks ago and they have responded well it seems. Also have trimmed very bottom level laterals. Should I top any of the laterals to promote two bud sites vs the 1 ? I’m located in NY so not sure if I’ve missed the opportunity to do it or not.

Just looking for feedback on how they look or if I should do anything to improve them.

Left is Grandpas cookies x early lemon berry
Right is grandpas cookies x purple sunset

From your pics, those Grandpa's Cookies crosses look solid after that topping you did. Don't top again though - you're hitting that critical window where photoperiods start transitioning outdoors in NY, and another cut means 7-14 days of recovery you can't afford.

Skip the topping and go with low-stress training instead. Bend and tie those laterals outward to even the canopy. You'll get more tops without the recovery slowdown. Keep cleanup light - remove weak shoots down low and interior growth that won't see sun, but avoid heavy defoliation once pistils show.

Get stakes or tomato rings up now before the stretch hits. Those fabric pots will dry fast, so water to slight runoff and consider mulch. Don't drop nitrogen to zero in early bloom - keep modest N levels for the first 2-3 weeks, then lean into potassium.

Chase 6+ hours of direct sun if you can move the pots, and give them breathing room from that fence for airflow. Start weekly BT sprays at dusk for caterpillars and watch for aphids, mites, and powdery mildew as nights cool.

For your specific questions - don't top laterals this late. Use LST and tip-tie tall branches below their neighbors instead. The plants look on track, just focus on support, keeping the lower third clean, and consistent feeding.

You'll see pistils and stretch soon. Keep retying for an even canopy, remove shaded lower leaves sparingly, and ease into bloom feeds without big swings. The structure and color look healthy - LST and support now will pay off when they start stacking weight.

There's no need to even out your canopy outdoors. The bottom of the plant is getting the same ppfd as the tops. They're about to transition into flower so don't mess with them too much. They look nice and healthy!
