Yeah gaia green is probably fairly benign! And you’re doing a great job! Just don’t overthink it! I am a fan of mixing it with water first, and then watering it in! When you’re using big pots! But so far you’re doing good! Keep on keeping on!

Plants are looking good to me. I don't know much though.

For your compost, you want brown and green material. People will argue the % all day long on this. I do 50/50 or close to it. I also water my pile when it hasn't rained a lot. I manually turn mine too. I have a 216 gallon GEOBIN. I pull everything out, fork it all a bunch, turning it as I go, then I pile it all back in there. Have 3 tomatoes growing out of it. Haven't watered or staked them. I've gotten more compost with this open bin than any of those tumbler types.

I thought about mixing it with water, the only other plant food I’ve used is jacks and it was used that way. So many tablespoons per gallon of water. I haven’t looked into how to mix the gaia green with water, I’ll have to test it. I know when it’s mixed with water it’s available faster?

I’ve come too far to give up now, I never thought these plants would get off the windowsill hahaha

I read somewhere that 80% of the fertilizer you dump onto those pots gets caught by that Matt! So you kinda have to be careful! That Matt Of feeder roots acts kind of a filter

I knew you would have the compost knowledge lmao

I’ve read on it and like you said, there’s always some different opinion on the carbon-nitrogen right. I’ve been eyeballing 50/50, literally one wheel barrow poop, one of leaves. since the manure is my nitrogen and it has bedding mixed in it comes with a little carbon too. And hosing it down daily with our cali weather.

I think my mother in law got a little geobin for free from a workshop she went to but I’ve yet to build it.

I really liked the idea of the tumbler but I think now that I’ve been practicing it the pile is a better fit for me.

Oh no way?! I saw the matt you were talking about, dirt was getting displaced while watering. When I added the gaia I topped up the plants too to cover up the roots. Looked pretty intense though. I see how it would filter.

Had a tumbler for years. Far more picky about ratios of things to breakdown properly and they are gross, ime. I never got but more than a cup or 2 out at a time. The open air geobin isn't gross and in less than a year, I've gotten probably 10 gallons of compost. Not sure who mentioned it above, but urine in your compost isn't a bad idea. It's used to make biochar too.

My geobin is huge, but the only assembly required was sticking clips into a few holes in the plastic and turning the clip like a key. Couldn't be any more simple.

I feel the same way, I keep adding nitrogen materials to my tumbler and it isn’t doing shit. It’s also in a black metal drum so it may simply be too hot.

My six year old was stoked when I told him he needs to pee on the compost

Clog your thread for a quick tail! I had a huge pile of about 12 years worth of clippings, leaves! Etc.! Went out with a pitchfork on a cold winter day to see what was going on and Doug in and was met by a Roiling cloud of steam and stench! Smell like a septic tank! So I walked down to see if the old lady wanted to take a look, and when I went back up the chocolate and the golden, we’re both chowing down on that stuff like there was no tomorrow! I ran them off, and they went and laid down! Within 30 minutes, they were both puking their guts out! When they were through with that, they both lay down with the most contented looks on their faces that you will ever want to see on a dog! L O L!

We have a little pug schnauzer cross that is our official ranch dog. She comes out when I’m working and barks at oxygen molecules.

She’s always eating the horse shit. Like it’s candy. Rolls in it too. And she keeps puking. Might be related.

I was using a watering can to fertilize the other day. Sat it down to do something, heard slurping sounds, looked and the damn dog was drinking the water. It smells awful too. Bunch of weirdos.
