I would go with he said. I was only able to top once cause I had limited space. But like he said I've seen lots of plants top different locations and have nice even canopy that's the beat use of topping I believe like he stated this my first grow so next will be topped more and will be training my plants.We break apical dominance to make all the buds more even not to make bigger ones. Topping is not a technique to do just once. In my opinion that makes an unmanagable double top. It is to continue topping branches til you have a nice even bush going in to flower.
For shorter veg time just bend them for same effect but faster.
This is for seed plants. Clones usually do better with topping because of the uneven growth.
