Hey guys my names josh. I’m totally new to both growing and this website so any advice is more than welcome. I just bought a grow tent and am running a 400w light.
Ive decided that it’s finally time to try growing. So far I’ve had seeds under t5s for about 10 days now. They’re in some pretty tiny cups and I feel it’s time to upgrade them. I’m on my way now to brave the corona for some soil. (Promix hp) as it’s the only thing other than miracle grow I can get in my area. I wanted something without slow release nutrients as I’m going to be using advanced nutrients ph perfect (grow, bloom, and micro). I picked these nutrients because it’s pretty much all I can get in my area but hopefully it’ll work out. I’ll include some picture of both the plants and the grow tent. Again any advice is welcome.

I would give those seedlings at least another week to grow before transplanting. They are still really delicate at that size. Also do not over water the them. It is really easy in those pots.

I was wondering the same thing. They look pretty small. I still have to get the temperature right in the tent anyways. I just bought a small heater to try and bring it up a bit. It sits around 19c with the lights and 17c without. I’d like to bring it up 4-5 degrees. How often would you recommend watering them in the small pots they’re in now? I put a dome over at night so they don’t dry out but I notice some moulding on the pots this morning. Too moist. This is all new to me.

Part of your challenge is the pot itself. They tend to retain water really well. The best way to figure out if your girls need water is to fill up a pot with just soil and have it next to the pots with the plants. Usually when the pot is at the weight of the empty pot it is time to water. The pots you have retain water so they will be heavier. Your pictures look like they have plenty of water right now. I would not put a humidity dome over the plants, but that is just my opinion. What are you running for a light? It looks like an HPS hood and you should be getting more heat than a 2 degrees jump with lights on.

The light is 400w and I’m running a mh at the moment. That’s a great idea using a pot with just soil as a comparison.i think next time I’ll put them in red solo cups or something bigger that doesn’t retain water as you said. Right now the pots have some mold forming and I’m not liking it. The slight increase in the grow room I think is because there’s nothing in the room to retain the heat. It’s just an empty reflective room. I think once the pots are in it’ll get warmer but I did buy a small heater with thermostat just in case.

Just make sure that if you get the promix from the store, its not a vegetable mix. Those have nutes.

The HPS should put off enough heat. Not sure of your climate, but take a look at your fan and see if it has a speed controller on it. Between the light and fan control you should be able to get the tent warm

If this is your first grow is there any way you can find some decent soil. The promix is less forgiving than soil. I would recommend starting in soil for a few rounds until you understand the plant and its needs. Promix is not a soil, it acts much like coco and both of these are going to be much more challenging for a beginner than some good soil. It seems like so many new growers come on here and are in coco and have numerous problems.
If you go promix, just remember there is no nutrients in the media. You have to add nutrients with every watering. Soil has minerials and the organic matter is constantly breaking down and providing some nutrients so you do not have to be on the top of your game to get decent results. Either way good luck with your grow.

All I've ever grown in is Promix or a PM copy I like this cheap stuff I get Greenworld VPW30. It is very forgiving No starter nutes but what I like is it buffers the ph really well and its 30% perlite. I start adding light nutes after a couple weeks like .25/.25/.25 ml per gallon first feed then move up every second water.
I Use Gh nutes and follow their recommendations on a feed-water-feed-water cycle I find in optimum conditions in my 3 gallon pots I water or feed every 3-4 days so once a week feed

My goal is to one day go hydroponic so I wanted to get use to a feeding schedule and having more control over the plant. I totally agree that a ready made soil would be way easier. But I’m up for the challenge and could use the experience. I really hope I don’t regret it but hopefully you guys can help me along the way. Here’s a shot of the medium and nutrients I was going to use. Also the cheap little $20 I got on the clearance shelf today. It’s got a thermostat at least.

I’d love to get my hands on some of that stuff. Sadly my area is more of a Miracle Grow than Foxfarm...

Have you tried looking for some of the other high quality soil brands. FFOF is not the only one. Look for Vitality, Royal and any others if you can find them

Do you have a recommendation? I’m mostly limited to what amazon.ca can provide unless miracle grow has a supplement. Lol.

It’s a couple hours drive to the nearest garden store and they like to use General Hydroponics which would be the Calimagic. I could also get “sensi cal mag xtra” from Advanced Nutrients. Not sure if those fit the bill?

I’d like to hear your suggestions. I wasn’t sure about the secondary line of nutes. Was hoping to get away with what I had and the rest would just improve things later on but I’d rather include everything the plants gonna need. I can’t seem to see your profile to pm you is there another way?
