are you training the plant to grow off of one lower node? What do call mainline. I call 8 main colas mainline. What am I getting wrong on my terminology?
I dont see where it makes a difference. Top on day 14 vs day 12? in veg time 32 day veg vs 30 days(maybe)? Not much dif to me. Someone should do a side by side lol.Correct me if I'm wrong but here's a theory I just had:
The lower you top the better for yield because while the tops that you cut off were growing, so were the roots and while the new tops are regrowing, so are the roots so essentially, you'll have around double the root growth if you top lower.
Of course the plant would have a longer veg but could that be worth the stronger root structure?
No I didn't mean waiting longer or shorter. I meant topping above the 1st,2nd,3rd,4th... node.I dont see where it makes a difference. Top on day 14 vs day 12? in veg time 32 day veg vs 30 days(maybe)? Not much dif to me. Someone should do a side by side lol.
Thanks for the replies everyone! This answers a lot. I'll clip a bit higher on the next grow to be safe. On the line you drew, I was scared to cut there without damaging those tiny leaves on the line. Do those matter? Thanks again!I'm actually new to topping myself, but I would've went for th redline from my understanding, I'm planning on doing mine really early here though.
Isnt that the same thing? I mean, if you only wanted to grow of the bottom node, you could top on day 7 or on day 14 when its already grown 4 nodes. No I didn't mean waiting longer or shorter. I meant topping above the 1st,2nd,3rd,4th... node.

No, here's 2 scenarios:Isnt that the same thing? I mean, if you only wanted to grow of the bottom node, you could top on day 7 or on day 14 when its already grown 4 nodes.
exactly, that is mainlining/ manifolding lolnot always, usually top after the 3rd of 4th and remove the bottom. Then top the 2 top branches again to make 10 branches total. Sometimes i'll remove all the bottom 2 later if they aren't keeping up which leaves 8, just depends on the plant.
I agree. So if you want to flip at a certain height, plant 2 might need a day or two longer to get to that height. No, here's 2 scenarios:
1. Grow 4 nodes and cut the top one off.
2. Grow 4 nodes and cut the top three off.
Once #2 reaches the height that #1 was when it was topped, it will have a much better root structure. (but it will be much shorter than #1.)
I say it's definitely worth it.I agree. So if you want to flip at a certain height, plant 2 might need a day or two longer to get to that height.
It might take a few days longer in flower too, because you vegged longer. idk Someone should do a side by side experiment with clones and determin which way has the best relative yield.I say it's definitely worth it.
That would be hard to do because they'd have to time them perfectly to be ready for flower at the same time.It might take a few days longer in flower too, because you vegged longer. idk Someone should do a side by side experiment with clones and determin which way has the best relative yield.
You just need a separate veg room. That would be hard to do because they'd have to time them perfectly to be ready for flower at the same time.
It depends what we're measuring. You just need a separate veg room.
