First vac purge

ran my first vac purge today with a 20g blast of green dream sugar shake/popcorn nugs. went with the mityvac/mason jar purge method, and really like the results. smoked a bunch earlier and managed to misplace my extractor, so next run of top shelf nugs will have to wait till tomorrow.

Really nice man, that looks like it's on the verge of being very pure, not to hate it looks bomb biggity. it's awesome to see more and more people start trying making their own systems at home. Try mixing different solvents and running the same oil with different solvents, certain solvents depending on their electrical charge and atomic configuration will make the oil purer then before but only after it has gone through a previous wash with a different solvent. also acetone is always a good thing to have on hand to raise the pressure of the reactions slightly, if you do it right you'll get red oil .........or better EEEEEeeeehhhhhh!! haha take it easy man, i know thats some good meds! :bongsmi::party........:sleepy

This is all bad, "Mixing solvents"!?! This could either explode or the reaction of two different solvents fumes mixing can kill you dead!...

Your method will indeed make red oil because something catastrophic happened on the chemical level.

Acetone is something you don't just want to have on hand for the rainy day. Acetone if not stored properly can sometime naturally turn into Acetone cyanohydrin....

If that shit hits H2o, congratulations you just made Cyanide. Cyanide will kill you in less than 10 seconds.

Be careful.

Ohiofarmer makes front page news blowing himself up. Jeez, let's be careful people! Last I knew, dying, wasn't part of and extraction method, but just like anything else with the world of cannabis more so is security!!! Doin stuff right is only accomplished through proper trial and error...in this case, the ones that don't die must be the pros.

i feel the same way. this was my 6th extraction, my first one came out almost black, and number 4 a mix of dirty butane/dirty screens/bad purge led to oil so nasty i threw it away. i'm getting it down though. trial and error is for sure the way to go, thank god i read up a ton so i didn't make the same mistakes other people already had, and i bought an extractor that only holds 5-7g's lol.

Hellmut and Canna i got respect for both of you so i'm not hating but this is really simple stuff here. first off at no time will Acetone ever turn into Acentone cyanohydrin by being improperly stored. acetone can only be stored in metal or glass b/c if you put it in plastic it will melt through, therefor you can only buy it in metal or glass therefor cancelling out the option of it ever being stored improperly; secoundly acetone cyanohydrin is produced from the direct reaction of sodium cyanide with Acetone and inless cyanide magically appears from the heavens and goes into your acetone this reaction will never take place; Thirdly Acetone is far from toxic in comparison to many other solvents people use; Fourthly Acetone is produced naturally in your body; Fifthly anyone making oil will have proper airflow to prevent neuron damage from huffing; sixthly Acetone is used all over the fucking planet to increase molecular activity in solvents so your claim is just plain invalid, if you want to prove it to yourself go buy some acetone and put it in your gas tank and watch how you get higher mpg. Also fingernail polish remover is watered down acetone......so according to what your saying woman take paint off their nails with cyanide? haha again much respect for ya man but you were either on crack when you typed that or you simply cannot use google or an encyclopedia. Take it easy guys hahahahaha:)

man..love when people get burned with others scientific genius..lol..too bad myth busters tested the whole acetone gas tank theory and said it didnt do jack shit..well they actually said no noticeable difference, but they meant jack shit..lol

thanks! another this is super old lol by now i have a couple hundred runs thru the vac under my belt, this was back when all i had was a mason jar and a mity vac;) funny how little you really need to make a solid batch of clear amber goodness; low heat, a little patience and a basic understanding of what's going on at a chemical level can take you a long way.

Agreed with Ohiofarmer- I have been around Acetone in warehouse environments all my life and have never seen anything negative other than gettin a lil high while working with it. Those metal cans don't leave much room for poor storage.

I understand what Ohio is talking about as well. We are simply using one solvent- butane, under one polarity. That means if you are under full vacuum and can change polarity you can even get a different oil or finished product with same butane. I have not got to this level yet. The key is being under vacuum which molecularly changes everything and allows proper purging.

I too am curious about other solvents as I tried some oil that was made with nitrous recently- tasted great. Not any stronger or any more purged but definitely different.

What makes me wonder is actually the difference in taste, color, effect (cannabinoid content, activity, and degredation) due to different solvents, polarity, and temperature at which its purged. Hot water baths definitely change cannabinoid content and activity due to heat levels. under real vacuum most solids can change state to liquid and this further eases purging especially with a low temp water bath to aide. Sorry for the rant, just some thoughts.

I purge with a food saver no problem. I do wait a few minutes to let the run settle down a little before the vacuum. You can't get vacuum like you can with a brake tool but still works just the same. I do keep my vacuumed bowl in a bucket of 100* water and purge 5-10 times with vacuum. Water over 110* and you will start to see a loss in turpines and taste. This makes for some smooth tasty pulls.
