Should I add anything to the FFO for an indoor grow. Does it need something like Perlite? If so, how much. It will be a single plant in 3.5 gal. container

https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/growing-with-gaia-green-shadeds-method.140538/ Use this method if you want to save money and understand your plant more. it's very simple to put together...Might want to use a bigger pot too maybe like a 7 gallon would suffice.

My worry was more along the lines of keeping the roots form staying wet. 3.5 is as big as I can go for this round. My current setup isn't right for larger right now. I'm finally getting an indoor grow to work. I've been learning a lot and it's starting to pay off. I'll be outdoors late spring. A lot easier outside

I am doing a 50/50 mix of FFHF and FFOF, I didn’t add anything to my mix other than diatomaceous earth for silica and to kill any pests that may have been in the soil. Plants seem to be loving it, hopefully will get me through to flower before I have to start adding nutes. I’m in 3 gallon fabric pots. Best of luck

I always add perlite regardless of the soil mix I was using. Usually about 10%. Sometimes a little more but never less. It always helps to have a well draining soil.

P.S. If you can find Roots Organic "lush" at a reasonable price, you might want to give it a try. I've use both Happy Frog and Ocean Forrest in previous runs but I like "Lush" much better. Between Happy Frog and Ocean Forrest? I prefer Happy Frog because it has dolomite in it. It's not as hot so you'll have to start feeding plants a bit sooner.

As MIGrampaUSA stated I would add perlite if your new to the soil and have doubts. I too add to my of or happy frog and for sure strawberry fields but can see where others dont bother. I eyeball it but no more than 20% and add most to bottom portion of my 5 gallon pot, as it rises to top from waterings. for newbies i think it kind of a must , may save you if you overwater for a short period. Won't save you from chronic overwatering, which I've done too.

For my current grow, I'm using FFHF and rice hulls in a mix of about 90-10. I prefer adding nutrients, so I'm not worried about HF not having as much as other mixes. I like the fact that the rice hulls will compost in the soil because I reuse my soil in my garden. I am also top dressing the soil with diatomaceous earth. It's too early in this grow to mention how this is or isn't working.

I'm with you on keeping roots out of a mix that drains poorly or stays wet instead of moist. I use FF soil mixes and add 1/3rd perlite by volume. If I was using my mix in a 3.5 gal fabric container I would get runoff with less than 40 ounces of water.
