Hey all and thanks for reading. Basically I ran out of room in my veg room, and my greenhouse will be ready in about a week when my plastic arrives. I outfitted another room for now, but here’s my question. My current veg room is all t5 lighting, as I started out on a budget. Will I experience any major problems going from the t5’s to a room with 3 1000w hps lights? Someone mentioned the spectrum stunting them for a few days, my concern was the lights being to intense. Any advice or worries ?

how far away will the hps be? how big are your girls? could only be a problem if light is too close

They are about to go into 3 gal pots so they will be slightly higher but I’m fairly sure there is plenty of space between them. I’ll add a pic

When i go from my t-5 veg tent to my 2/600w hps flower room i start at 24”-29” over the canopy in air cooled glass enclosed fixtures.

I do it all the time to give them a bump. If I have room in my flower room under I'll move my vegging plants that are under t5's into the flower room under a 1000w hps then return them to the t5's in veg room before the 1000w goes out at night. They love it although doing it when they're in the large pots makes it a chore especially when wet. I put them around the edges of my room up above the rest of the flowering plants but at about 2-3 ft from the light.

Like others said, start out FAR from the canopy and slowly adjust as they acclimate. The HPS will also heat up your plants themselves as the photons hit the leaves. With T5 you can basically be touching the plants (not ideal) but with HPS, just a few minutes even remotely too close could fry your precious girls!

A crude test is to hold your hand under your lights and if within 30-45 seconds your hand is too warm to be comfortable, your plants will feel the same way.

Cheers!

You have a lot of space & height, I'm envious. You should get your pots up off the ground, helps with airflow and I can't tell if that's a concrete or a particle board floor they don't like cold roots. I just use some short sticks or runners to lift the pots when I have no other options

this is only temporary for a week or so... my other veg room became overcrowded quick, so i borrowed some lights and set this up quickly, im basically waiting for my greenhouse plastic and can start putting them outside... weather said rain all week so i didnt want them getting dumped on. I do agree i shouldve put some barrier on the floor between the ground and pots, but alas, i didnt.. So far so good, they didnt die from the new lights lol. Live to see another day :)
