From what I've read spino doesn't appear to have too much of an effect on h. Miles, don't know about it and nematodes.

As an update for this thread, the hypoapsis have been super effective against the gnats. I still have some flying around but nothing near as bad as before, the sticky traps are only picking up a couple a week. I've also been applying gnatrol on my weekly hand water tea day at the max rate (7g/gal) and the gnats are largely under control. But I just found thrips in my foliage so I'll be doing a spino foliar and drench tomorrow.

Thanks, man. It's my own fault, wasn't staying on top of my preventative maintenance. caught em before any significant damage was done. I should be on top of shit in a week.

If you spray this on the top of your media and on the pot and then leave the door open and place yellow sticky traps outside your room/tent, most of the fliers will scatter and land on the traps. This decreases the numbers that will re lay eggs, and it is cool to watch.

It smells like a clean hamster cage and the smell is gone within hours, I still wouldnt spray it around my late flowering plants tho.
Active ingredient is cedar oil.

I top dress with perlite or sand an inch or more thick and then crumble mosquito dunks on top. When you water it is like a wall of biologic death covered glass over your media.

You only have to re apply mosquito dunks every month and when crumbled on top the bacteria is concentrated where the gnats would lay their eggs if they find a spot that isn't blocked by top dressing.
I also line the bottom of my pots with perlite to block the drain holes and sometimes use womens stockings or pantyhose cut to fit over the bottom of my pots to block drain holes.

Gnatrol did it for me. Spinosad did nothing to FG for me..but it might for you. Stop the larvae and you stop the gnat.

After you get the population gone and since you are into predators, you should check out Rove Beetles aka atheta coriaria.
The great FG larvae hunter...could be good for IPM.

Thanks, man. Those suckers look cool. Next time I order bugs I may go with 1 tube of the hypos and 1 of the rove, looks like they hang around for a good while.

I really think that we're all dealing with various Sciarid flies, and that's why someone like myself sees no results using dunks or Gnatrol, but have experienced beautiful, lovely, releasing relief with Spinosad. Oh GOD it felt so good to be rid of those little fuckers!

Did I mention that I've gotten into the habit of bleaching all my drains now, too? That has REALLY helped tremendously as well.

This occurred to me as well, there are thousands of species in the fungus gnat family. I've scoped ones on my sticky traps that have the little pincers at the end of their tails, and some that didn't.

Tested the spino on a few plants yesterday (both drench and foliar) with 2oz/gal of the Monterey garden spray, and I'm happy to say I have seen no ill effects. Just finishing my breakfast and then it's time to dunk and drench the rooms.

I used 1 oz of the captain jack deadbug spinosad concentrate in a large plastic tub that I immersed my geopots in all for over an hour and I am seeing no damage to plants a day later and not seeing visible root aphids but that doesn't mean they are not still there!! Fungus gnats have dramatically decreased. Tonight drenching and putting in the tub with some ogbiowar foliar pack tea

How far into flower would you feel safe doing a root drench with spinosad? Have you noticed any difference in quality?

Just did one at the end of week 2, we'll see how it goes.

Edit: I used my drip system to apply it and flushed it out an hour before the lights came on, so they had roughly a 10 hour soak. I'm thinking it may futz with my medium ph a bit but I'm sure it won't be an issue as I fertigate to runoff 3x daily (4x today, including the flush).

As for the foliar I just checked and there are no burnt pistils (!) always a good sign.

Honestly? All the way through, it really hasn't appeared to cause any kinds of problems... Unless you're a fungus gnat. Since I began this whole regimen, including bleaching drains, I'm hardly seeing them anymore. Bleaching drains for some reason seems to be key. I don't understand because my drains are all indoors.

I looked at two local stores and neither had monterey garden spray or spinosad. I think my bugs may be something besides fungus gnats because they seem to be getting worse. I have used gognats, gnatrol, mosquito dunks and azamax. I have top dressing on all of my media and they breed in the drain holes. They run and crawl through an inch thick layer of gnat nix like they are in a ball pit at chuckecheese. I have black sticky traps that used to be yellow, where can I get spinosad....

Amazon, homie. It's like $30.

Gnat gnix didn't do a thing for me, fwiw. I read in a couple different studies (Google "fungus gnat control" or "fungus gnat ipm" and look for the university published papers)that topdressing de doesn't do much.

It remains to be seen, in my situation, how the spino will effect the FGs, but I will put up a fresh sticky trap or two and see how it looks in a week.

As for the plants, so far they haven't missed a beat.

Yea man, I had no luck with the mosquito bits version of bti on cork. Weekly full-strength gnatrol and a shit load of hypoapsis miles seem to be doing the trick, I think this spino should be the final nail in the coffin. though things are looking well enough that I wouldn't have used it if it wasn't for the thrips.
