Fungus Gnats And Spinosad

I've found the FGs really explode when i do something stupid and fry a good chunk of roots. That said, when working with predator bugs you end up creating an ecosystem in your soil which, like you, I find pretty entertaining to observe.

I had a mother plant that got too big for my space so I gave it to a buddy to flower outside. I hit it a few times with hypoapsis, last time back in February. I stopped by to take a look at it the other day and the soil is STILL crawling with hypos and springtails and not an FG in sight.

Use this it's amazing mine was hammered with gnats what round with this and no more problems 40 drops to 100ltr to water soak soil then let them dry out bone kills nats eggs and maggits

I have used spinosad, gnatrol, mosquito dunks, gognats, and azamax and nothing seems to get rid of them. I wish I could have gotten a pic of it on the wall, it was bigger than a fruit fly with the structure of a fungus gnat, black body with a pointy stinger like tail end and no distinguishing neck between the head and body.

After reviewing my identification photos I think what I saw was winged root aphid, I had no idea they could get so big. They must be eating well...:mad:
Time for nematodes I guess...

Will it do me any good to add nematodes now that I have used spinosad and neem or will that kill the nematodes as soon as I add them?

See if anyone did a study on it, go to google scholar and type in "effect of spinosad on..." And then the scientific name of your nematodes. Do the same thing and use azadirachtin, the anti-feedant chemical in neem. I've never used nematodes for RA but they're peraistant as fuck, especially if you have flyers. You may want to look into a second or even third mode of action to use against them.

Edit: an update, happy to say the spino kicked the shit out of the fungus gnats, still catch a couple here and there but only on the occasional plant in the flower rooms. Haven't seen any in the veg room in weeks. Same with the thrips. Unfortunately I haven't seen any hypoapsis since, though I haven't done too much digging for them. But before the application I had a nice size population going.

I recently had a clone that was covered in crawler RAs. I dosed the 3 gal with 4x strength BTi (20 drops in 5 gal) and and dressed the soil with DE for a day. Removed the DE and have found zero RAs. I even emptied the container and found none alive. Having said that, I will still be using OG Bio War but BTi does work......Or maybe the DE I guess.

@Homesteader I truly don't think that any of those products will be effective if you're really dealing with RAs. They were not in my case, for sure. In fact, they pissed them off and after a few Tx's, I ended up with an explosion.

I have a hard time seeing details like that anymore. The way I can tell is by looking at the wings, and I'm gonna have to look it up again, but one of them has wings that lay flat on their back, and the other has wings that come together like praying hands. I believe that it's the FGs whose wings lay flat on their back, but don't hold me to that right now.

I say everyone, but Im still hitting it with OG Biowar just in case. Emptied the bag and did a search, ditched the plant. zero

Different types of RAs? The BTi was 8% in this and like I said i used 4x strength. Either way, don't take clones without expecting a hitchhiker.

Anything look just like them? little reddish monsters the size of a salt grain. You could be right though. Either way I am going on an OG Biowar regiment from here on.

RAs that I've seen are definitely not reddish, they are BLACK. How do their wings lay on their back? When I hear reddish small fly, I think fruit fly. Of course, growing up during the whole Mediterranean fruit fly thing put them in my eyes. Let me go do a quick search on the wings of FGs vs RAs. They look awfully similar but their life cycles are very different.

OK, I think I got the wing thing switched, it looks like the FG wings come together like praying hands, the RA wings lie flat.

But again, reddish suggests another Sciarid fly, not any kind of aphid with a flyer cycle.

Ah! When the RAs are producing, you are inundated with strong flyers. That's one of the main reasons why I didn't act sooner, I thought they were just some sort of super fungus gnat. Then the mysterious deficiencies started.

The other flying aphid species I've dealt with are cabbage aphids, they're very similar in that they have several stages to the life cycle, including a pregnant female flyer stage, and there are zero organic treatments available for them outside physical barriers. In other words, if you wait til you see 'em you are SCREWED. I lost over 30lbs of market-destined Romanescu cauliflower (the stuff that looks like a fractal design) to these fuckers. The aphids were so tight into the curds!

Yeah this was the only clone I brought in so I had it isolated in a 3 gal and caught them early before I saw any flyers or stress in the leaves.

Im pretty sure I have RA and some type of mutant poison resistant fungus gnats, I also have spider mites and either thrips or earwigs are munching the edges of leaves...
I am just going to buy this and add them all, will the spinosad and neem already in my soil kill nematodes?
