When I started growing in the mid 90's the seeds I started with came from another grower who's female plant had a hermie branch “both male and female parts”. It was a older variety of Garlic bud I was told it was 75% indica 25% sativa. I figured that the seeds were tru to the plant. He sold me 5 seeds for $25. I planted and grew them in veg to the point where I could get a meristem cutting from each plant for sexting. I was happy when all the plants turned out to be female. I used the 5 plants I started for my stock plants. I took allot of cuttings from those 5 plants. That was some killer bud major skunk with tones of garlic. People weren’t use to high grade bud in the mid 90’s . It was the hit of the town.
I continued growing that strain for several years before I had to shut it down.
The DNA Crew has a variety called garlic bud now but it’s 50% indica and 50% sativa. Theirs isn’t as skunk as the variety from the 90s it’s not the same or even close. No disrespect to the DNA Crew don’t get me wrong they’re producing some awesome seed. I liked the old garlic bud better. I wish I could find some to start now.
Does anyone know of any varieties that’s 75% Indica & 25% Sativa?

Crickets and Cicadas Puck hp is supposed to be a garlicky strain. I have one male and one female going Right now but the female is not quite ready for flowering yet but the stem rubs on both are very unique.

What has happened to weed is terps have gotten louder and VSC's (the major stank) have gotten softer. Nothing is gone or lost. It's just muted. The Ice Cream Cake I've been growing has a nice floral citrus top terp note but you break open a bud and there's garlic and cat piss VSCs in there waiting for you. So nowadays you have the terps on the outside, VSC's on the inside and it used to just be super loud VSC's that even overpowered the terps. If you want to lean into a plants full VSC potential, include some good sulfates early and mid flower (Epsom & molasses are great sources). Stink isn't guaranteed, it just taps into the potential. The genetics and that pheno still have to come through for you.

I haven't heard about a stem rub I'll have to give that a try. What I usually do is crumble up a water / fan leaf and give that a wiff.

Thats the same thing. The aroma it gives off is a peek through the window as to what general terp profile the plant carries. If you smash it up or just rub it, can you describe that smell it gives off?
