I was wondering why this is?
They are shiny all the way from veg to flower.

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on this.

My other strains have a Matte finish.

No RO water, just ph'd water. Calmag when needed.
The plant is healthy, I have grown it a couple of cycles. It always has glossy leaves.

The burned tips are my fault. Duh.

i'm looking for info or ideas about why this strain has glossy leaves. the leaves stay glossy all through the whole grow cycle. The strain is unknown, as it came for a bag seed that is about 20-25 years old.
My GF loves this plant that we call Red Bud, as when harvested, it is FULL of red hairs. Reminds us of the old school redbud.

are there other strains that have this same trait???
its seems to have a higher CBD.

Is it just a couple leaves on the plant? I was going to say it’s indica dominant (which it might be) as some heavy indicas have that trait while growing. My Sensi Star was very similar. If it’s just one or two leaves though then I’m not sure to be honest. Normally the plant is either like that or not. Hope you take clones and keep her around.

It's the whole plant. Yes it seems very indica dominant.
Yes definitely been taking clones. I popped over 50 old seeds before finding this female.
She is kinda finicky, nothing like my other strains.

Ahh ok then that’s prolly normal. I seen the non-glossy leaves right next to it so that threw me off a little. But looks like you got a handle on it. My guess is it’s just a heavy indica and that’s how it’ll grow.

I would say it looks like you have some nute deficiency but you’ll have to check the new growth to be sure.

I had a lockout problem for a little bit, I uppotted her and went easy on the watering. Starting to come back around.

I have a bubblegum with shiny leaves like this. After growing it out more than a few times, I found that if I fed it more, the leaves took on a more familiar appearance. This one liked more (P specifically I think) than most. It just took roasting everything else in the garden with a reservoir screw-up to figure out.

In most cases feeding more doesn't fix anything, but it's something maybe to test out on one next time you run her out.

You got a mutant mate :) If she's good that's amazing. You should totally clone and pollinate with a male from a strain of your choice a branch of hers (using silver spray to block pollination for the rest) then grow that cross from seed & clone

It just means that is a trait formed from a genetic mutation like hetrochromia in humans. Nothing bad man. Mutation is how we survive (or get killer strains of herb :) )

I looked this thread up because when I was attempting to water the jungle, I noticed a number of leaves that were very glossy/shiny and had little serrations on the leaf's surface. The plant is from 30+ year old strain that is very tall and lanky, supposedly the Matanuska Thunderf%%k from the Alaska pipeline. I have had the seeds in my personal possession since '78, so I know they are old and not bullshit. Anyhow, I have been growing this strain forever, mainly from beans that still pop every now and then. I have never noticed the glossy leaves before...they look like they were sprayed with shellac or clearcoat. The plant is tall and lanky with long gaps between nodes. I thought it had a lot of Sativa because of the narrow leaves and tall, lanky structure...but who knows. The glossy leaves are all on the lowest branches where the only buds you get are kinda wispy...but the leaves are unique. I have a couple of sister plants I'm gonna check for the same, but so far it is just the one large Thunder.

Maybe ammonia based nitrogen toxicity?
But I understand it’s also strain related. If it’s just that particular plant it could be genetic, but if others are the same, check ya nutes. Ammonium nitrate causes nitrogen toxicity which does manifest in very dark bright leaves and it will lock out very fast. It’ sets or locks cal/phos/ mag and fe into soil causing high uptakes of nitrogen that makes shinny leaves that burn off and get crispy fast.

The problem is only on one branch of one plant. The seeds were 30+ years old and was a old strain ive been growing forever...but 1st time I've ever had something like this. Only the bottom branch...I put a photo of an adjacent branch that is OK. I finally joined the high tech crowd and bought myself one of these new fangled PH meters and a Dissolved Solids setup...finally. More out of curiousity since I typically have no problems and never needed one...but the glossy leaves has me wondering...
