the coco will wick enough moisture out of the air in the top of the bucket to stay moist and if the roots are in the water they're ready to rock; hydroton i'd run really high water levels but anything else i'd keep it below at first and then even more later to avoid water logging the medium; just remember that you have way fewer gals in the system running a lower water level; if u ever have an extra bucket it's nice to see where the water level is after x amount of gals poured in; that way u can eyeball how many total gals in the system looking at where the water level in the epicenter is and multiplying accordingly
my system is all rooted out and i'm going to be dumping the water out and adding back ph6 water from a 55gal drum to flush so i'll get an idea of how many gals are in the system when its full of water displacing roots; should b interesting
