Hey all been growing in build a soil style organic beds for awhile now and never seen this. I lost a fairly sizable branch to it already. There’s little black bugs near the affected areas,( might be un related ) that are too small to reasonably get a good picture of. Any ideas? At first I thought it was rot from staying to wet around the base but now the little bugs got me worried

Not sure what you have but if it was in a tomato stem it gets pulled and thrown away very far away from my patch and I recheck drainage.
Looks like the F word.
Fusarium.

Yeah, it looks like stem rot. I had this problem last summer in a greenhouse. Didn't notice it until a whole branch wilted. Found rot that had encircled the wilted limb and was working it's way around the stem. Cut away all i could see with razor blade and treated with hydrogen peroxide. Lost the one limb but saved the rest of the plant. What is your environment like? Stem rot should only happen in very high humidity. I'll try to find pics of my rot.

Thanks I would appreciate that. Vpd is about 1.3. I think I was soaking the base a little to heavily during feeding and then covering with my poor man’s mulch black plastic garbage bag and that might be the cause, how did you treat with hydrogen peroxide? Just spray it directly on the affected areas? Dwelll time? Very interested in this

I just cut that limb off and cut away all rot i could see down to healthy tissue. Then it wet a paper towel with hydrogen peroxide and wiped the area down twice a day for 3 days. Luckily it didn't come back. And i agree the black plastic probably had something to do with it. Good Luck

I've dealt with stem rot before, and used H2O2 dabbed on and around the affected area, you may have to do it more than once and it will often appear somewhere else on the plant, so be vigillant. If if completely encircles the stem, it's a goner.

It’s good I have extraction fan and 2 6 inch fans running one above and one below the plants

Personally, I wouldn’t ignore this—it’s not just cosmetic. Once it hits the main stem like that, it can spread fast if conditions don’t change.
