Are there any helpful guides out there on pruning your plants? I just threw a bunch into flower and they are fighting each other for space so I wanted to thin them out a bit.

I've done some reading and maybe i am over complicating things...

- Trim lower fan leaves not getting light if canopy is dense
- Don't trim in late flower as it shocks the plant
- Only trim off the big fan leaves? (unless taking clones)

Just want to make sure i am not trimming to much and hurting them, my understanding is that i can just let them go but they will waste a lot of energy on the crap below thats not really getting light. I want to maximize my yields.

jinxjj, see if you can google defoliation method cannabis, some see it as radical/aggressive but the end results are some what amazing,it*s what I use after all I*m trying to grow buds not leaves, not for everybody bud, happy grow to you,Peace

Yes, trim out the lowers. I don't trim out fan leaves, they're the solar collectors. I learned the most by reading up on how dates are grown on Dateland's website. The premise makes sense and has worked in practice and it was one of my jobs do perform on our fruit trees when I was a kid.

Basically, you select OUT for the best fruit (or in this case, flowers). So in this instance you want to pinch off the bud sites (not leaves) that have the least or poorest potential, thus ensuring that the plants put their energy into growing the *best* buds, not just every little bud.

Thanks for that suggestion man, i found some good articles.

Looks like this is another one of the controversial subjects i'll have to figure out myself!

Just start slow ,I was a bit freaked at first but the end results are worth it,try to keep as much balance/symmetry to your branches for water/nute uptake wish I knew how to post pics haven*t figured that out yet I would put some before and afters up,good luck bud,Peace

Look for the button that says "upload a file" and it will pop open a window asking you for the picture you want to upload.

jinxjj, sorry I got them in the wrong order but you can see how drastic a change can be I will try to post a new pic of the last photo, sorry about the belly 3rd to last pic was before her first real trim,2nd to last was about 5 days later when I did the flip and the last pic is 5 days later she doesn*t look so good but she has only been in flower cycle for 5 days, radical huh,Peace.

Same plant 1 week later, like I said this is not for everyone,it*s just what I do,Peace.

Pardon me farmers 13 days later they all run together sometimes lol,Peace.

I try to do all my thinning in veg but sometimes I have to go back through stuff in flower.if its done in the first few weeks its ok but the sooner the better ime or yields can suffer and really late pruning can cause herms on marginal genetics. I just try to take bottom branches that would end up as larf because I just dont need extra larf.i also try to take out crossing branches so most the stems are growing vertically and able to stack nice and hold more weight.those crossing branches create more shaded areas and are the first to flop over when buds start to form.but for my setup the lower 1 foot gets pruned off and I only pull fans that are not healthy looking. I tried thinning fans and realized it only lowers my yields so I stopped a long time ago.but I also stake my plants right away in flower to open up the canopy and it makes spotting those crossing branches pretty easy. Try I few ways, like do some lightly and a few heavy, maybe do one where you strip some fan leaves and see which ones grow best in your setup.those pics above are really extreme and I would not recommend doing that .gl

This is what my situation looks like, the ones needing pruning are in the back.

So I want to keep all the fans and trim the lower thin scraggly stuff? I am trying to do SOG since I have limited room, so from what I understand I want to give all the attention to the main colas and trim small stuff so all the energy goes into main colas.

i would need to see the side view of those bigger plants.do you plan to keep them sitting where they are now? you will prob need some advice from sog guys.i try not to crowd plants and whenever possible i give each plant 2 lights or more, everything overlaps in my room though.almost looks like you could respace those plants and make better use of the space but idk if your planning to add more plants yet

Dunge, like I said this is not for everyone,it is the way I have done things for a long time and I have no evidence it increases yield or makes better bud as you can see in the 1st and 3rd pics I can grow leaves as well as anybody but this is my way thats all I*m saying,Peace.
