Hello growers,

New here. First post and the site isn’t working quite right on my iPhone so please forgive any mistakes. I have a humidity issue I need help with. I’m currently flowering, week 2 day 6. and shooting for right around 50% humidity in my 4x4x80 AC infinity tent. I’m running a photontek X 600watt pro,(8)40 watt AC led strips for under canopy, and filling any gaps. So I guess I’m running 920 watts of LEDs total in that 4x4. I am using the AC Infinity Grow Tent Ventilation Kit Pro, AI Powered, 6 Inch. 2 AC circulation fans, can’t remember size. One above canopy and one below. I have a sensor in the tent and outside the tent measuring humidity, temp, and VPD.

Inside the tent: 11 plants of multiple strains. AK-47 x2, Super Silver Haze, purple Thai, green crack x 2 , gas pak, white widow x2, Durban poison, and an Auto Northern lights. They are all medium to large in size. The are at various heights for reasons I won’t get into.

Nutrients: I’m using CalMag, advanced nutrients ph perfect trio with big bud and overdrive.

Substrate: it’s a long story but mostly kings mix which I believe is around 30% coco, idk 20% pete then a bunch of bat shit and whatnot lol. All pots have a good amount of perlite in them prolly around 30% on average.

I am Testing ph

I am Not testing EC/PpM

Shoot it’s been a couple of days forgive me if I forget any vitals.

My issue is the humidity is remaining too high in the tent. Hovering around 70 inside and 60 outside. So I go buy a dehumidifier rated for 2,500sqft to dehumidify just the basement of my 1,000sqft home. I pointed the fan out of the dehumidifier towards the air intake flap in my tent. To hopefully help push dry air in. While the exhaust blows out moisture. I did all of this for virtually zero change to the in tent humidity. Not to mention my exhaust and circulation fans are rocking at level 10/10 nonstop, which I don’t like.

I have a few theories/options.

1) 11 med-large plants is just too many for a 4x4 and I’m never getting all that moisture out?

2) the ac infinity dehumidifier is only rated at like 4-6 plants but it may help?

3) The ac infinity terraform controls heating, cooling, and humidity/VPD. $600 ain’t cheap though. Neither is $260 for the ac dehumidifier. Also not sure how many plants it’s rated for.

4) 8,000 lbs of desiccant just thrown on every plant.

Please help! My flowers are just starting to come in and I don’t want to lose a large harvest to this god forsaken Midwest humidity.

I attached a couple pics and a video. If you zoom you can get a better look in the tent. Sorry didn’t do a photo shoot tonight so pics are a lil old and not the best. Tent is in dark period.

Hey there!

I'd say welcome to the forum...
But i'm new here aswell so idk.

Sorry to see nobody replied to your post yet. Feels familiar tbh lol.

I'l try my best to help:

Yes tent does look very crowded and will always be hard to control. Did you flip to 12/12 yet?
If not you should. The stretch is gona be a problem.

Before or right after the stretch is the perfect time to do a massive defoliation.
This will help control the humidity as well.

Personally i'm running a dehumidifier inside the growroom. Wich works a lot better in my experience.

Maybe you can diy something out of tube and garbage bags to funnel all the dehumidifier air straight into the growtent?

One last thing. I'm not seeing any fans running. Fans are an absolute must have to control humidity and prevent bud rot.
They help transfer the humidity from the plant to the extraction fan.

In a 4x4 tou should have at least 3 fans running. (I have 3 in a 2x3)

Thank you Nederhigh! I appreciate the help. I like your funnel the dehumidifier into the tent idea. I think that wouldn’t hurt at least. Although I’m a tad worried about the rate of air exchange that would provide. I’m not sure how hard the dehumidifier blows. But I guess the exhaust is sucking in air through the fabric and small holes elsewhere. I just don’t like running the fans that hard bc I’m sure that shortens the their lifespan. But I guess that is what I bought them for lol. A third fan may help. Thank you for that advice. Was hoping 2 would cover it but I think you are correct. When I open the flap and I’m in there I do not think the leaves are rustling around enough. Although I do not think it’s a major issue bc there still is a good amount of circulation in there. A friend works at local grow room and said the best way to remove humidity is by raising temp and rapidly cooling. I’m not sure how to do that but by buying a heater for the tent. I guess I could use a space heater to blow some warm air in. Then when the lights cut turn it off hopefully cooling it pretty fast. Temps drop down big time, like 20-30 degrees at night where I live so I think that could work. I’ll have to check out tent heater prices. I should probably just buy the teraform but can’t afford it at the moment. I’ll try to keep you updated. Ohh and yes I flipped to 12/12 about 3 weeks ago. I think we are going to have just enough space. May have to curve a few before they hit the ceiling but I think we will be good 🤞.

Any heater will do. No need for a special cannabis growing one.

If you are circulating your air the warming/cooling probably wont help and will only make things worse.
Warm air can hold more water before it's fully saturated/100% humidity.
So as long as you are actually sending the warm air somewhere it cannot come back. (Like outside) It's the best way to go.
But when humid warm air cools down again in the same room condensation could happen.
Make sure there is a good supply of fresh air to that room. Preferably one that doesn't mix with the tents exhaust.

About the strain on the dehumidifier...
Something to watch out for probably... It might not like it. I've honestly never tested it.
I do know some cannabis brands make special dehumidifiers that connects to tents etc.
Pretty sure ac infinity and spiderfarmer has one. They work with 2 tubes.
One extracting humid air out of the tent and another one pushing dry air in. They're ideal and most efficient in air circulation situations.

If you have an inlet and outlet fan going you can try setting the two to create a positive pressure environment. Intake being set at higher speed than outlet.

Sorry if i missed it but what are you currently setting the dehu at? Try setting that thing as low as itll go and see what happens in your tent.

Also you can give what Nederhigh is talking about with the ducting on a unit. Plumb that into your tent. You’ll be ok for now only being into early flower but you are going to want to get this dialed before to long : )

Thanks again for the help everyone.
So as of Friday the 31st I have yet to solve my humidity problem. The flowers are getting bigger and this could ruin my harvest.

I think I figured out what the problem is though. My buddy has about 20 what are now full grown plants in my veg. Room all going off my 300 watt photontek. This person has an eye for detail and has been able to rotate them regularly to get enough light. Don’t ask me but this person is making it happen I’m watching him. But to the point. These (20)2-3ft tall veg. plants have to be releasing a ton of moisture into the air in my 1,000 sqft basement. That would explain why the humidity won’t go down. Even with the dehumidifier. This person got their own tent and removed some of the plants last night. Not sure how many. Any ideas in light of this new info? I thought about sealing off the room but then there is no air exchange for my veg. Plants. I still like the routing the dry air into the tent idea. It feels like it is blowing hard. I just haven’t had the time to make something to do it with.

Ohh I forgot to mention I only have an exhaust fan currently. Should I be running Intake and exhaust fans?

A little update with a video and pics. Everything looks good but still battling the humidity. I have a second bigger dehumidifier coming today so fingers crossed.

They look nice and heatly!

But also a little too bushy and crowdy fot my liking.
Personally i'd get some clean scissors and run it trought that botting half :D

Welcome to the farm Time!

Some good advice has been mentioned above, but I'm curious to the layout/position of intake, outtake, uptake, downtake, ontake, offtake, 😉, of all fans and dehumidifier/humidifier/heaters in use....

If I read it correctly, 🙈, your tent is in a growroom....

yeah, sometimes life gets busy and answers don't seem to get answered quick enough....😔

Hello Bilber,

Thx for the reply. lol. I have 1 exhaust fan. It’s the AC infinity 6 inch AI+ I think. The AI+ is more speaking the control panel/App. Also a big ass AC charcoal filter. All mounted to the ceiling and venting out the front of the tent. I am not running an intake fan. The air intake is primarily on the back of tent near the floor. I think this is permanent due to light leaks elsewhere. There is also a section of my main zipper broken. About 6 inches. So I’m sure air is being pulled in there too. Still running a negative pressure tho. I have (2) 6 inch AC Infin. circulation fans one above the canopy and one below. I was playing with an extra 6 inch fan in there today but don’t have it in there right now due to space. It’s a cheap Amazon stand alone fan with usb plug. I’m sure I could fit another fan or two, if necessary. I think that covers it. Well the lung room is connected to the veg. room that has no tent and currently 11 full grown plants. There is no door between the two rooms.

I think they covers everything pertinent. Lmk if I missed anything. Ohh two dehumidifiers one rated at 30 pints/day and the other 80. I positioned them both in between the two rooms with the exhaust, dry air, moving towards the tent intake.
I attached a photo of the tents current conditions. Lights are on for another hourish so the end of the cycle but the door was open for a long time towards the end of cycle as I worked.

Probably the most important thing I forgot to mention. It’s been raining hard here for 2-3 days. The co ditto s in the tent and outside the tent have not seemed to change much in either direction over the whole grow. That is the one thing that gives me solace. It been pretty stable so I don’t expect any spikes.

I also think the sensors may need a couple of degree calibration. I was getting different readings on several different stand alone hygrometers. The other ones all matched. I’m not very worried about 2 points though. I think this falls well within an accepted error range when trying to dial in humidity. At least from what I have seen bc this task feels impossible lol.

Guano !!! Huh not many use that nowadays it’s like a lost art with all these bottle lines.
I grow exclusively with different types of guano.
Rem it’s a slow release fert
If I read et all correctly your in soil
Forget testing ph you’ve no need the soil/microbes will buffer that.
Seriously it’s a waste of time & money and can lead you down the rabbit hole when you’ve no need to alter it.
Good luck bud I’ll be following your grow as a fellow guano user 👍

As Gmix stated, don't go chasin, it'll hurt more than help!!!

So if you've read my disclaimer/s ,🤣, I'm a top-notch killer of plants!!!!🤓

But maybe if you moved the actual exhaust fan from inside the tent to the outside of your tent, it could help....🤔

Also the intake fan....possibly puttin it on the outside of your tent could help?

The heat from a continuously running fan plays a role in heat/humidity in a sense.....

Ima pull up a 💺 if you don't mind...?...

There are thousands of us on this site...🫡

We'll get it if you're patient....!!
Maybe not from me, but

Thanks! I think they look pretty good. When I started I would have been happy making it to the finish line with 1 good plant. I didn’t expect much and this is what I got lol. I germinated idk ~15 seeds only expecting some of them to pop. A few to die as seedlings. A few after that. Leaving me almost nothing lol. A buddy has been a big help taking care of them with me thank god. I grew once b4 but it was 20 years ago and I had (1) 250watt metal halide through the whole cycle. My knowledge was what I printed off at the university library the night b4. Things were a bit different then.
About the crowding. Is it crowded? Definitely. But it is not as bad as it looks in the pics. We did an excellent job trimming them to fit. And most didn’t spread beyond the pot diameter. I was actually just down there 15 min ago tying the AK-47 to the pot in an effort to spread it open more bc there is the space for it. Figure it will let more light in the middle, airflow, etc. This plant is crazy I’ll send a pic or vid. It’s like a sold ball. You will see what I mean.
About the trimming. Totally agree. I’m down there now trimming away but getting nowhere lol. I chopped a main cola off of my White Widow last night. Pretty tragic. But there are plenty more. These plants have just been spitting out some foliage and it’s hard to keep up. I’m working on that. Like litterally right now.

I broke down and bought a 3rd AC fan. Figure what’s another $50 on a big harvest. Should be here 2night.

So the medium I primarily used this grow is Royal Gold Kings Mix. I’m told this is the mixture by Chat gpt….
Royal Gold King’s Mix is a lightly fertilized, fast-draining blend made from:

  • Coco fiber and chunky coco chips
  • Sphagnum peat moss
  • Aged forest products
  • Perlite
  • Dolomite lime for pH control
  • Fish bone meal
  • Bat guano
  • Feather meal
  • Kelp meal
  • Rock phosphate
It is more of a coco/peat growing medium than traditional soil. It holds moisture but stays airy and dries relatively quickly. The nutrient charge is mild, so it is generally intended to feed plants only briefly before you begin your regular nutrient program.
I also added 20-40% perlite by volume, I eyeballed it, to each mix. There were a few other soils mixed in at times too. So it’s truly a mixture of mediums.

I was under the impression Bat guano doesn’t work with coir ( coco )
I’ll have to ask chatgbt why I thought that as it was partyly because that’s what I was advised in the 80s and trying it before I asked my plants didn’t perform as well as they did in soil

Ok after some digging around here’s the chat log
There are a few reasons you might have come away with that impression, because there are a couple of related ideas that often get simplified into “it doesn’t work.”

The most common reasons are:

  • Bat guano performs best in living soil. Since coco is inert, many growers say guano “doesn’t work in coco” as shorthand for “it doesn’t work well on its own.”
  • Organic nutrients need microbes. Without an active microbial population, the nutrients in guano aren’t converted into plant-available forms as efficiently. Standard coco setups often don’t have that biological activity.
  • Many coco growers fertigate frequently. Coco is typically watered with a complete nutrient solution every day or every few days. Slow-release organic amendments like guano don’t fit that style of growing as well, so they’re often discouraged.

So the more accurate statement is:

  • Guano can be used in coco, especially in a biologically active organic system.
  • Guano is generally not recommended as the primary nutrient source in conventional coco, because nutrient availability is less predictable than with coco-specific mineral fertilizers.

If you remember reading or hearing that bat guano “doesn’t work in coco,” it was probably referring to the second scenario rather than meaning it’s completely ineffective.

Obviously you were advised correctly.
the grow I tried to use guano on was pure coir, growing inside, that mix isn’t pure coir & I don’t think you’ll run into issues with it.
It reads like a good medium with all the goodness in it.
You sound like you’re on top of it 👍
I hope to see your grow thread if you make one.
Good luck on the adventure it’s one you’ll never forget.
