Hey folks I’ve been getting closer to the flowering stage of the plants life as it’s showing me it’s sex and lots of calyax’s are popping up (apologies if I spelt that wrong) anyways the plant is showing new growth that look like wee pouches of new leaves are about to open but I’m just wondering is this new growth the start of the buds? The nights have been getting longer as it’s an outdoor plant but still only around 8 hours of darkness in the night, any help or info would be greatly appreciated

@Dirtymuckel your plant is looking nice! It's definitely a female! My outdoor plants have started to flower (Southern Ontario), yours look like they might just barely be starting, but it looks mostly like pre-flowers so it could still be a few weeks, it's hard to tell when flowering starts outdoors, the assumption I have followed is wait until the budlets form (multiple pistils emerging from a node/top) and then assume you are around week 2.

thanks so much pal deeply appreciate it. Yeah I’ve really noticed some difference in the nodes and those parts of new growth potentially pre flowers look like they’re starting to thicken up a little bit, the sunlight hasn’t been great the past week so I don’t think I’ll take a great yield off this plant but I did just do it as an experiment so anything I do take will be fun. I’m in Ireland myself and I’m just worried that by the time it starts to flower our weather will be to bad :(

You are likely to be harvesting around end of October assuming flowering gets underway by end of August. It's definitely pushing the limits, but you should be able to get at least some produce at the end. Once the flowering is well under way and the weather starts to turn, keep an eye on your buds frequently inspecting for bud rot, you will likely get at least some unless the cultivar is acclimated to your climate. If you spot bud rot be sure to remove it (sanitize the scissors between cuts) plus a bit of green to be sure you got it all, don't save the rotten buds, do what you can to save the good ones.

One thing you can try that I am trying this year is a foliar application of beneficial microbes when flowering starts. Look for Bacillus subtilis in your microbe product, it's the bacterium that will be fighting the bud rot for you. Make sure you do this before week 3 of flowering.

Good luck!

Wondering if you have the capacity to augment the light at all during the daytime with some external light?

Just saying you could park an outdoor floodlight with a monster bulb pointing to the top of the plant. I would come over and help you install but my wife has me on lockdown.
