I have that second one. I don't necessarily trust the accuracy of most of these things. I "calibrate" the moisture reading by feel. That is to say. Testing soil at different degrees of wetness, testing with the meter and then actually feeling the soil. That way I know what "wet" or "dry" actually feel like so I can make a judgement about the true moisture level. It's kinda like learning to work with an uncalibrated oven. Knowing that 350° is actually only 325° allows you to make adjustments to time and/or temperature. At this point my plants are too big to lift the pots so I need to rely on other means.

I do spot check my soil pH if something looks off. I don't want to add anything when the cause might simply be a pH flux. And if it seems stuck I need to determine if I have a root problem.

I don't rely on it but it can be a useful tool at times. That being said, I don't care what any gadget tells me if my eyes and my gut are telling me something different.

I like the cut of your jib
Only thing I ever use a moisture probe,
Is only to layout lights using that old school Lux meter. That is actually surprisingly accurate.

But moisture? By feel, just imaging your root ball is not dirt, if it feels like the equivalent of styrofoam as opposed to dirt, or very near to that your good to feed.
Acidic or alkaline?
Don’t be stupid. And that crap won’t happen, noses and strange smelling liquids are in tune.
So Lux meter is aaaaight on them ridiculous 3ways…..to me anyhow, I’m touched tho.

French fried taters……ummmm hmmmm
