Hey guys! Ok so.. I have my box that some of you have seen, and I decided to return one of my 650w lights. Reason being is one of you pointed out that it was overkill in my space and also cause since I am gonna have to sacrifice some of my box to hold the AC and carbon filter/fan on the left side of the inside of the box.. I won't need to have all that side super lighted. My question is.. the air conditioner is gonna be able to take a lot of the humidity out of the air. We have a portable AC in our kitchen, and it gets the humidity in our kitchen and large living room.. down to around 46%. Couldn't I just use the AC that I want to put inside my grow to do the same thing, or am I still gonna need a dehumidifier?

Do you have another thread where you have pics of your space posted? If not can you post them here?

The ac will probably suffice for dehumidifier.

Sure.. there ya go. It's around 5+ foot long, 3 foot deep, and almost 8 foot tall. On the left side I'm gonna be running my ac infinity 22" carbon filter and fan.. vertical.. in the back left corner. Right next to that the AC would sit.

So by ac do you mean a separate unit or the one in the house?

It varies through the grow starting 65 down to 45 at harvest.

A simple 8000btu or so portable AC to place inside the left side of the box.

Yes that will be enough. But please do measure iRH and temp and if shit gets weird you will have some data. You look like a candidate for CO2

If you're using an AC and CO2 you can't really run a venting fan. Co2 and air con is a sealed system. Vents only a few times a day.

Well the ac is gonna have a duct running from it to go out the window. That's just how it works. However.. I am planning to run CO2 and the ac on timers. So I may only be losing SOME of the CO2 at designated times. At least that's the plan.

You already have the ac unit?

It's gonna be a sealed room whenever I hang the Orca grow film. Just the hose of the AC is gonna be blowing out, and gonna have to make some VERY TINY holes way up too so I don't mess with the pressure. But again.. everything on timers, so I can at least negate most of the CO2 loss.

You want a mini split ac if you are running CO2. They make them 8000. I run 12000 for my 4x8s

You do not want to use a portable AC unit with co2 enrichment. Problem being the portable AC unit runs about half of the air outside for cooling and condensate purposes. Ideally a mini split is the way to go but that room is too small for an 8000 BTU unit IMO. You can easily get away with 4000 BTU's. All this being said. Ideally a window unit would be best but that is going to exhaust hot air and drain water into the room the wood unit is in. Really there is not a great way to run CO2 in your situation. If you choose to go thru with the portable AC unit plan on going thru a 20 pound cylinder is just a few days because of the waste created by the portable AC. only other thing you might try would be to duct air from the wood structure to a window unit. There is an intake and exhaust with a window unit. You could duct a 4" supply line from the cool side of the window unit into the wood structure and perhaps a 6" ducted intake to the AC unit, this could probably be passive but might work better being forced air. Again not great ideas with CO2.

A window kind can attach a garden hose to the drain. And the hot side and cold side are separate. But they leak light. Have to take them apart and paint the white hunk of Styrofoam and plastic or figure out another way to keep light from leaking in.

Single hose AC wont work it MUST be a dual hose and it would need to be inside taking up space. A window shaker is a better option and imo just an AC will not suffice since after lights out temp will drop and humidity will spike not only from the temp drop but also limited transpiration. Imo the AC will likely not run iver lights out leading to humidity spikes reaching dew point.

Just my opinion from doin the same thing
