yeah, i plan to give the ones in paper towels a good amount of time before discarding them, really.
My problem is with the pellets, because the more time it passes, the more mold they grow on top... in fact i jsut checked the pellets and one is starting to grow mold... so those i wont allow much time.. or maybe just dig out the seeds from the pellets, discard the pellets and put the seed in towels. Infact... hmmm I might do htat today hehehhehe.

Oh, and I'm already getting a mix ready to later on the day put in the seed that already has the inch long shoot. Just trying to decide if i put it in straight coco or a mix of coco and peat while it developes its first set of leaves.

Old seeds are always a crapshoot. Glad you got a few to pop though.

:D thanks! Im really glad about it, too. I even have a strange feeling that most of the ones in paper towels will pop eventually.

Is it best to soak seeds before putting into the hydrated Jiffy Pot?
I don't trust the paper towel method with the cost of seeds I would be afraid of fumbling &/or damaging the tap root en route to the growing medium, but that's just me.

Tweezers do the "heavy lifting" very nicely. I've not had much problems with this ....

I still wouldn't trust it, my hands are as steady as a alcoholic more than surgeon.

You could start the seed right in the jiffy pellet. It's not the way I do it but that doesn't make it wrong. I prefer to know when the seed has cracked and the taproot begins to grow.

One thing about jiffy pellets. They retain a lot of water. Over-watering is something to watch for.

Yep, this I know, going to be careful with water, should they still be presoaked or planted dry? I like to use them for vegetables.
Been weening myself off them since the netting is plastic but I have tons I bought on end of season cut out & will make exceptions in this case.

I've not used the "pre-soak" method. I know others on here have and swear by it. I'm more inclined to tell you to use the method you feel most comfortable with. I believe there is more to paying attention to the details of what is happening to the seeds than whether you soak the seeds in paper towel or toss them in a glass of water ...

I get pellet dry weight, saturated weight, divide by 2, let pellet dry down to that number and stay within 7 grams of that number while germinating, then transfer to final pot day after sprout. Note - I remove netting top and bottom. Seed exposed for illustration. Just personal preference on starting my autos.
