Hey growers, so it’s been a little over 9 weeks of flower now and I’m still not seeing amber trichomes. I’m an indica girl and prefer more of a couchlock effect, hence patiently waiting to see a few amber trichs appear.
I understand Durban Poison is completely sativa and that sometimes 9 weeks is actually 12 weeks. So maybe it just needs more time.

My babies are inside as the weather is in the minus now. But even so, the soil on top was a bit white the other day so I covered the stalks with scarves (haha). I’m stuck between just harvesting now whilst they seem cloudy, and giving it a couple more weeks. I just fear for rot as even I feel a bit cold in the room they’re in. My mom is going to try and bring a portable heater from work.

I will upload some pictures that I took through the loupe (they’re not great, it’s difficult not to be shakey) and would appreciate if anyone could tell me if they seem on the milky side or not :) I’m not sure personally. Thanks in advance!

Without even looking at trichs I can tell you it's not ready.

Thanks man. I actually just looked back at my photos as I took one when the first pistils appeared and that was September 8th. So I was wrong in saying it’s been way over 9 weeks. You’re right it definitely needs a couple more weeks.
Thanks a bunch for the speedy reply :)

Sorry to reply again but I was just curious as to what makes you think it’s not ready?
If it’s the size of the bud please know it will not get any bigger as all my plants have small buds, the summer was awful.
I just checked out a gallery of “ready to harvest” plants and one of them are pretty much identical to mine.
Either way I’ll give it another 2 weeks as I’d like some amber trichs.

The leaves will tell you when it's ready typically. Your leaves look like mine, and I'm on day 5 of flower

I was thinking that too. But I did read that some leaves just won’t turn yellow depending on the strain, even when it’s ready to harvest. Hopefully I see a change in the leaves within the next 2 weeks though. Thank you!

When it's time, I think you should be looking for milk.... not amber, but that's just me.

Amber actually represents THC-degradation.

I’ll say more likely three weeks or more, know it’s tough to wait, but everything shown seems like it’s got a way to go yet. Too lush yet.

Yeah I know, that’s why I’m not letting them all go amber :) Only a certain percentage. I just prefer the heavy body high, and Durban Poison is more of a head high I’ve heard. Like a shot of coffee. If I let the trichs go a bit amber it’ll make it more sedative.
But thanks. If they don’t seem to be going amber within the next 2 weeks I’ll harvest anyway.

I grew Durban for years, and from experience I have to disagree. More amber in a sativa won’t make it sedative, it does however significantly decreases potency.

If you like couch lock, then Durban is the wrong plant to grow, it will never produce a sedative experience, and if does, it isn’t Durban.

Well it’s Durban Poison from Dutch Passion and it may have been crossed overtime. I’m not entirely sure.
The only reason I chose Durban Poison and not an indica is because I’m South African and I felt obliged to have it be my very first strain. Next year will definitely be an indica.
As for it not being sedative, I can understand that, it is a sativa after all. It’s just what I’ve read on multiple grow sites. Even if it’s slightly more couchlock like, I’d be happy.
Would you recommend I harvest irrelevant of amber trichomes then?
Thanks!

Yeah the closer to harvest the more you want to get it done. I’m pretty patient with it though as I just want it to be the right time. As long as she needs, I will give :)
However I must say that I’ve watched various amounts of people on YouTube who have ready-to-harvest plants and they’re still vibrant green. Some strains just don’t get that leaf fade. I’ve been flushing them for over 2 weeks now (because I thought harvest was close) and the leaves don’t seem to have changed much even with that.
Nevertheless I know most strains do show when they’re ready by leaves so hopefully over the next 2 weeks I see the leaves change in colour.
Thanks!

Hey guys, so these are pictures I’ve taken about 2 weeks later. Most trichomes seem cloudy through the loupe but here and there are clear ones. I’ve heard that’s normal though. I’ve never seen the leaves so wilted either so I’m assuming that’s a sign I’m closing into the end of life.
I say it’s time to harvest, what do you say? The calyx’s have swollen too. Most of you were right, and I was admittedly wrong.
Thanks in advance!

Still looking premature from here.

Aside from the inadequate trich-deposition which could be due to inferior genetics, inadequate cultivation methodologies or both.... the trichomes are looking pretty clear from those pics, and I'm not seeing much ethylene -induced leaf senescence either.

What are you using for magnification?

Looks like you could use more.

Here's a pic of my 22x jewlers loupe - you'd be surprised at how much you're actually missing:

Sorry but most of that wasn’t English to me, you’ll have to downgrade your vocab if you want my dumbass to comprehend what you’re saying. Dunno what ethylene-induced leaf senescence is, but nevertheless thanks for your help and reply. Appreciate it.

Really? I see a lot of cloudy trichomes in those pictures. Yes I see some clear but the overall are cloudy and not glass-like anymore.
I’m using a loupe. Ordered one but received 3 different ones (I’ll attach a pic). They’re good for what I paid, but agreed it could be better in capturing trichs. I’m also very shakey when trying to take pictures. You can take my word for it otherwise, I see cloudy when I look through the loupe. I’m just debating on whether to wait for a stronger milkyness or not. Considering it’s my first grow I’m not 100% sure what to look out for. The harvest-ready trichome images I see online are what mine currently look like. Hence why I believe harvest time is here, or will be in at least 2-3 days.

I just don’t know what to do anymore because I’ve put a thread up on two different forum sites and I have various amounts of opinions. Some say to chop and others to not.
Stuck between trusting other growers and going with my gut.

Thanks for the reply man :)

I mean if these aren’t milky then I’m blind. I also feel like those pictures have uploaded in a slightly lesser quality than my phone’s library has.

Edit: Oh holy shit. They really do. The close-up screenshots I just took weren’t that bad whatsoever. It’s just incredibly blurry now.

Senescence: It's basically the plant telling you it's getting ready to die. Take a look at the following pic of a plant right before it got chopped, and compare it to yours now.

What is the first difference you notice?
