Well, looking around including on this forum

I ran in 11/13 schedule based on DJ Shorts observations that it brought out different phenotype expressions.

Maybe I should try it. It will lower power consumption and thereby slow things down. Maybe hold off on Far Red.

Don't ya think the far red would make more stretch? Think hps vs mh.

I think it makes them branch more, personally. But you are right, it might make them stretch more too. Idk.

Lemme get the vegg'd plants in here and we'll decide if we need any stretch.

So what does your perfect grow look like? Dou you scrog?

I shoot for a cola in each of the squares of the net.

Maybe you are right. Like i said, just what I do with equatorial strains.

Seems to be a lot of variability in the growth habit of sativas. The first sativa I grew, a Malawi (Ace), took 16 weeks of flowering to finish and it wasn't until I put her on a 10/14 light/dark schedule and cut her nitrogen PPM in half that she stopped stretching. She was an out of control monster. I expected the same habit from the Wild Thais I just harvested, but they were easy to manage and stopped stretching on their own about 4 weeks into 12/12. Experience with a particular strain seems to be key.

First one in. Very good bones for scrogging. 1 month veg.

All environmentals now running. Tomorrow her 5 sisters will join her and the net will come down.

I don't really think about my grows that way. I'm much more of a "me and the plants hanging out and getting to know each other" kind of grower. So I'm largely useless for this kind of optimization.

That's what I shoot for with indicas and hybrids. While a full screen is optimal, I'm still getting a handle on scrogging sativas.

I guess this is dodging the question.

I take as my ideal the expression genetics would have in a hotspot like the mountains of colombia, hawaii, thailand, etc. I try to create an environment that crudely mimics that. That includes light spectrum, hence my interest in far red:red ratios and how the plant uses those ratios to decide how to grow.

Is there a downside to scrog or hydro? I've just always done it that way. My results are the kind of bud porn everyone posts. Just a friggin lot of it.

I'm contemplating cutting the pipes on the hydro system and pulling it all out when I finally harvest the JtR in the LED tent. Then it's just a matter of figuring out which pots and dirt. I've never grown in dirt. 2 tents - 2 systems... seems like a proper test and can check that soil vs. hydro variable off the list. My personal opinion is that it does not matter in the final product, but I am more than willing to be proven wrong.

If you are getting good results then i would keep doing that! You seem to like to tinker and honestly hydro suits that great. Same with scrog.

I hear you. I'm kinda done power growing, I'm ready to let nature take back over. Unfortunately these plants coming in were prepped my typical scrogging way so I'll calm down on the veg on the seedlings too. Slow everything down a couple weeks.

Wait. I haven't moved the seedlings yet. Now would be the time to switch them to dirt.

i really like how you put this. I am definitely this sort of grower. I want the plant to be “happy”. But how to quantify this for science?

I think as more states legalize, prices will come down to the point that yield becomes less of a priority to most home growers. People will concentrate on other desirable traits like thcp and other stuff that still has yet to be discovered.

I've got to figure out how to plant this. I can legally only grow 6 plants in each flower tent.

Sheberghan – The Real Seed Company
Malawi Gold – The Real Seed Company
Iranian – The Real Seed Company
Balkhi – The Real Seed Company

No tracking on the other order yet.

I can run less than 6, but not 2 of each. Gonna have to choose what's first and if its compatible with anything else.

regs

I'm thinking they are all so different I gotta do a whole tent of 1 seed type. So germ all 12 seeds of whatever is most likely. Seems like the Malawi Gold has been called out several times this thread.
