How come my buds are so small?

Hey I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong. I keep hearing and reading that some plants buds get so big that they need to be supported. I don’t have any of my plants that have big buds like that. Is it bc of the led light? When I use to grow years ago with a 1000 watt hps bulb they did get that big. But then I just grew in my closet for flower and the room for veg. I had a whole room dedicated to just growing. It’s just very frustrating that I can never get those huge buds. I even had my led turned up to 50% but all that did was burn the leaves. I turned the light back down, but what am I supposed to do?
In the pics you can see how my light started to burn some of them. I just turned it back down to 40%. I’m using a se4000.

Although the top is burned, the shock will make the rest of that plant stocky; heavy buds.
just add up to 2 weeks to the harvest date to make up for the time lost for recovery.

they look like indica... popcorn bud harvest
i would of removed alot of those fan leaves for better air and light .

They are all different strains but all indicas. Cement shoes, dosi dos, godfather og, star killer and big bazooka. I forgot to write down when I switched them. But from my last couple harvests I’ve never been able to get really fat buds. That’s why I’m trying big bazooka, it’s supposedly a big yielder. But it looks like dosi is stuck with popcorn buds. Even tho I turned down the lights it looks close to almost being done. But I’ve noticed that the 8 week limit is just a estimate. Mine always seem to take a lot longer.

Try Atami Bloombastic it helps, allso since everyone went over to led you can buy a mh/hps light with hood fan ballast and bulbs for well under $200 there giveing them away bc they throw off allot of heat and suck up a lot of juice, you can allways go back to that, I cut .my teeth on mh/hps kind of a trade off, but then quit for a few years indoors and then went with led and autoflowers bc my needs are small and I have a perpetual grow bc in my state you can have 3 plants in flower and 3 in veg so when my autos go into flower closet I start 3 more, allot of folk don't understand autos but like I said I use Atami Bloombastic and have got some nice colas, so you have a choice/ you can buy a real nice mh/hps rig for cheap or not, ill post a couple pics the Atami really does help but please keep in mind these are autoflowers not photoperiod plants

So do hps make bigger buds than led does? I don’t mind getting one but I’m growing in a tent. Wouldn’t that have a big increase in my temps? I use a tent so I can keep the smell contained. It’s illegal to grow in my republican controlled state. I’d have to keep my tent door open if the temps are to high. If I do that the smell would get out. I think if my neighbors found out they would probably rob me.

Led will grow big buds - just need to dial in the environment and start with good genes - I don’t measure success by big buds a successful grow for me is quality #1

Yes your right. Quality is more important than size. My buds have always come out really good with my led. It’s always just not been as big as when I used hps. I went out and got that bloom bastic nute. I’m going to see how much that helps. But I’m happy with how they are doing now. After I turned the led down I’m not getting any issues.
except yesterday I found one of my plants had white mold on it. I just removed it as it wasn’t really growing. It was in the shadow of the other plants. I learned my lesson by having to many in a small space. The other plants are fine as I caught it early enough. But I am now keeping the tent door open and I have a fan in front circulating the air. Now they’ll get enough fresh air and no mold can form.

They all have different breeders. I am using one of franksters plants, ilgm and seed connect in AZ. There’s is the slurricane I’m growing. I can’t wait to try it after reading all the reviews on slurricane.

I assume you meant se5000, but at 50% that light is only pulling about 240w so I really can't see how your plants could be getting light burned unless it's right on top of them. I run a couple of se7000s and my plants don't get burned whatsoever when I crank it to 100%.

Running your se5000 at 40% (~200w) is the reason why your buds aren't getting as big as you'd like.

Yes I know, it’s about 6-10 inches above the canopy. I would love to give them more light, but when I do the leaves on the top start getting burnt. The bottom leaves are fine so the only thing is that can cause that is the light. I’m sure I’d get bigger buds if I could turn it up. Believe me I tried.

Turn up to 100% and raise the light. What does SF recommend for hanging height? 12-18"?

Get yourself a light meter so you know what you're working with

I wish I could turn it all the way up. Problem is that my tent isn’t tall enough. I have it as high as I can hang it rn. The plants are to tall atm and I know if I turn it all the way up they’ll get burnt. Now if I was growing outside a tent I could definitely hang it higher. Any suggestions would help.

Try fixing the light directly to the roof of the tent. From the pics it looks like you could still raise it up another 12 inches or so. Your wire hangers look like they leave a pretty big gap

Yes it can go up higher if I removed my fan and filter. I kinda need it inside the tent for this grow. Since there’s a lot of humidity I have to keep the door open during the day with a circulating fan blowing on them. I lost one of them due to white mold. I don’t want to lose anymore of them. Since the door is open the smell gets out so I got to keep the fan turned up. I’m in one of the crappy states.
