How Early Should I Top Or Should I Top At All

I have 2 plants that I have topped 1 time and those are my OG kush and BC God Bud those are the 2 biggest ones currently 6 weeks in veg I have topped both 1 time on the 3rd node goin up when they were 7 to 8 inches tall but now I see all this new growth with new tops and IM wondering should I cut these too and when should I start to cut them. Also i have plants that are currently 4 weeks in veg and wondering when i should top those too if i should do it now or wait tell they gorw 1ft Peace.. Thanks Farmers.

When and where to top for me depends on how I plan to grow out the plants. If I'm doing a SoG, they don't ever get topped because I'm after a single cola in a very small pot. If they're going outside, I start topping around 5-8 nodes up, because I already know that a plant whose trunk divides too close to the ground is going to have problems as harvest nears.

As seamaiden says.i top around the 5/6th node.wether i top again depends on what im trying to acheive.if your not wanting to top a second time you could super crop your plants instead.

IM going to be using a scrog but I want to know if I should only top like the the one top that grows on that 4th node the main top theirs new branches growing with new tops should I top those? Or is that all just preference?

It depends.How many plants are you planning on useing for the scrog and what size of space are you trying to fill?

I'm trying to fill a 4x4ft scrog with 5 plants Ik it's going to be really tight

Just preference.if you top you have to leave it a few weeks in veg afterwards.

And, don't forget about that post-flip stretch that lasts about two weeks. Some girls don't stretch much at all, but the couple of times I've done a scrog the Cali Blue I was running stretched like hell and almost overfilled the screen, I had to cut a good bit out. But, given that you're going to do a scrog, I would also pay attention to where the screen height is going to be, then plan on cleaning out everything below the screen.

Get to know your particular strain also as not all cannabis strains respond well to fimming/topping.

Here is a link with picture tutorials on topping . Hope it is useful. Keep in mind it is just 1 mans opinion and experience. Find the strains that top and train well and then experiment what works best for you and the preferred strain.

I was just reading up on lollipopping and it said something about a post-flip stretch what is that? And how do I know when the stretch is happening? I think it's just when your plants are critically growing fast

Post flip stretch is a last push of vegetative growth and is what occurs after you "flip" the lighting schedule to a flowering schedule. They tend to stretch pretty hard for the first two, sometimes even three weeks after that. Once they really begin flowering, vegetative growth stops and the plant puts its energy into growing flowers.

Do not just double the nutes. Gently increase the nutes if you do.

I wanted to say that if you are a within a week or two of flipping the plants to flowering that you might want to stop trimming or topping. First to give the plant time to recover, secondly to keep the plants stress free during the crucial early flowering stage.
Stressed plants in early flowering herm easily. This took me years to learn.....
Stop all trimming and training 10 days before flip.
Just my opinion.

Whoooooooaaaa easy does it. :D Ya by all means don't just start bombing you gurls with extra nutes. Like @ShroomKing mentioned go easy. As you get a feel for growing you will intuitively know when to alter/change your feed regimen.

Always make your transitions as smoothly as possible to keep stress in flower to a minimum. Over fert in flower and you will not be a happy man. Under fert are typically always easier to fix than an overfert problem. IMHO

Your stretch as other mentioned will be strain dependent. As always best advice I think I can share with a grower is this, and no offense to anyone that came up different. Start out with just a strain or 2 and REALLY get to know them. Get your environment and what you gurls needs nailed before you get crazy, and what I mean by that is, a lot of growers dive head first and have grooms that have 1-10 different strains all requiring a different set of feeding and husbandry then get overwhelmed and then want to blame the strain, or worse yet blame the breeder. Take your time, learn the strains that you prefer and fight the urge to grab the latest (buzz) word on a new strain and just start popping all kinds O beans.
