all you have to do is have anyone in the collective, including the owner, grow and its the exact same legality as me or your growing. But even under Prop 215 I don't think it's legal. Is it ? And the clinics are fully in view of state police, city police, the sheriff's dept AND the feds.
From SB 420: "While patients and their caregivers may form a cooperative or collective, the entity itself cannot cultivate marijuana.* Only patients and their caregivers are exempt from prosecution for cultivation — the entity that they form is NOT exempt."
This apparently new practice really gives the feds a reason to go after clinics.
Not a smart idea IMHO. Clearly greed is the main motive since I see no sign of patient prices dropping.

"I suggest, however unpopular this idea may be, that every group engaging in collective activities maintain a transparent and fully accessible grow."
Why can't solo growers just get a license to grow and sell weed and be their own clinic. Then the best weed wins and that is fair.

So, obviously its much more beneficial financially clubs to grow their own, instead of paying 2-5k for packs from other growers. Even in San Diego which is one of the worst climates in the state, there were only a handful of raids for the entire 2010 year with hundreds of clubs, so I'd place that at a low risk
Squarepusher,
Is that the way you read it ? There is so much vagueness and ambiguity in SB 420 that I just can't unravel it. And if you have a 1,000 member co-op in Sac County does that allow you to grow 1000 x 6 plants if you are sending all your meds to this co-op/clinic/collective ?

check that thread out
There is nothing in Prop 215/SB 420 that says you forfeit your own rights to grow if you are part of a coop. In fact coop's are meant to grow for participating members.
Besides, I'd say 100% of large scale grow operations, over 30k watts are funded by dispensaries, normally hiring a grower on salary or commission to tend to it.
Square,
Are you talking about CA ? I think you may be a little niave. From talking to hydro store owners in my area there are quite a few people with 50K grows in barns and warehouses, who during the summer are growing 400 + plants OD. Obviously I haven't asked for phone #'s.

But I could sell them for $100 because I freakin grew it outdoors. If I was a grower I would get together with other solo growers and flood the area with $200 an oz good quality weed. Then I would see who could hold out longer them or the solo growers. They won't last a summer. They would be losing money with all their overhead and selling for $200 an oz. Especially when the solo growers are probably going to have the better weed.
its all relative.Nice article ale,,
Seems to me that members of a 1,000 strong collective would probably consume 1/4 oz a week = 250 oz or about 15 lbs. A grow that produces that amount each week is certainly defensible - and quite large.

SB420..? Why are you looking to that? Look up People vs Kelley (California 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, IIRC).Squarepusher,

The mega facilities will not be happening any time soon. Oakland and more than a few of its movers and shakers are under rather close scrutiny by the feds, not to mention that they currently do not have a city attorney willing to represent them specifically on the mega-facilities thing.T
With the coming of possible mega facilities in Oakland, its possible the days of average growers selling 'extra meds' to clubs is coming to an end. Even the outdoor crop this year was going for 800-1500 for average quality, maybe a bit higher for good quality.
That being said, I would never go over 99 plants in one location.
lol thats what happened in cali. outdoor market got flooded. driving prices down to 1-2k/lb for outdoor. most cant even get 250/oz here for their highgrade indoor. you got to be killing it to still get 4k/lb in cali.
dank indoor ogs get sold for 3000/lb everyday. same stuff that would be 5k back east.
