I always thought you started counting days or weeks in flower from the day you switch to 12/12. But today, someone very strongly corrected me (nice way of saying "mansplaining"), telling me that you start counting from the appearance of the first flowers.

Which is it, farmers? Who is right, me or mansplainer?

For photos you start at flip.

i heard you are joining us with 1 gallon challenge 😉
Hahahaha....yeah id love to do this down the track @PK1 not just yet though..if i had another area she would b game on..

Doesnt really matter either way. The plant will finish when it finishes. That said, I've always counted from the flip just to keep track of things.
What if you have a plant that doesn't make a pistil until 70 days after flip then flowers another 10 weeks; is that a 10 week or 20 week flower?

No wrong or right - opinionated personally I’m with you I count for reference only and from the day I flip

20 week. It'd never be in my garden though.

Count from flip. How could you accurately judge when the plant starts flowering like the dude bros say?

When you see it. Lmao ..just like outside..you cant count when theres nothing there right?
Why do growers want to know the flowering time, except to compare to other plants and for planning. I want to know when to expect to harvest. If I buy a pack of seeds and it says flower time 10 weeks but it took 10 weeks after flip to start and then flowered another 10 weeks- I'd be calling the breeder and asking whats up. If a strain says 6-7 weeks and it takes 10 weeks because it didn't make a pistil for 24 days; is that a 7 week strain or 10 week strain?
When you buy a pack of seeds, is the flower listed for indoor or out? Some breeders give both.

i count from the day the plants are flipped to 12/12 cycle. and it's to give me a gauge, so i can get a perpetual grow going, trying to be as efficient as i can with the space/light that i have. this start of flipping and when it starts to bud is a difference of about 7 to 10 days, no?

but what of autoflowers?

another point, there is a general incentive on the seed producer to state shorter flowering periods.

isn't it kinda like stating its 3% fat or 97% fat-free?

Yeah i know what you mean.My last was outdoor seeds with flowering times between 8-9 weeks .day 61--62 i pulled them since bud onset .prolly could of gone another week.if i add the 14days till i seen bud formation thats 75-76 days...but it all really doesnt make any difference .like what you stated the planning side of things..

You are correct. Anything but counting from the day of flip is useless to anyone but the person who thought up the alternate method.
