Once a solid 20 years ago I did some some really frosty loose buds of Northern lights. And it was really good. Mayne not by today's standards. But I was surprised to see loose buds be good smoke.Interesting on the low lux and solid buds but as mentioned solid buds don't denote quality .
I am sure many who run lights higher wonder how things really could have been.
While genetics may be the true answer for solid buds, there is little doubt the plant loves light ...

Bud density is a genetic trait. You can feed your Poodle a pefectly balanced diet and exercise and it will never be a Labrador. I don't care how much light and food you give them, my Colombian will never make tight buds. In my grow, more light makes bigger buds. It doesn't make them any denser.Overall plant growth is similar to working out at the gym - there are a lot of factors and it's not just "work out X days a week". You gotta eat the right foods, eat the proper amounts, get enough rest and recovery, provide enough stimulation to elicit muscle growth etc etc. Oh and yes genetics also play a part in how big or shredded we are as humans. I think a lot of growers(myself included) think that throwing more light at a plant is going to produce better buds. But I think we forget to take into account the necessary increase or balance we have to bring out of all the other factors when we blast our plants with insane amounts of PPFD/DLI. Most people won't see a noticeable enough difference in yield or quality above 750 umol when compared to the multitude of problems that can arise from 900-1200 PPFD.

If you know the overall spectrum of the light you can convert lux to ppfd. Lix predominantly measure green light so based on the amount of green in a the spectrum for a given light source a relatively accurate conversation can be made to ppfd based of lux measurementsI was under the impression that lux only measured the light visible to humans so was pointless in measuring the photons available for a plant.
Been saying this about organics for years. Its an industry and we all onow how dirty the fert industry is. The typical unicorn piss in a bottle. Plants cannot take up organic ferts but with that saiid there are some benefits to the microbes attracted and symbiotic relationships that occur in the process of breaking organics down into ionic form

I will usually grow around 10 to 12 plants under two 1000watt HPS lights. I am trying for the first time Candy Bud going on what some people at a dispensary have told me. I am growing purple haze and I have fox farm soil that was just transplanted when I switched them to bigger pots 3 gallon. I let them adjust to the transplant for two weeks and have switched them to flower. The taste is good of everything that I have grown but this one thing seems to elude me.

2000watts can do wonders if the set up is configured correctly.
