I flipped these 9 days ago and I suspected one to be male and the other female but I would like some verification.

I don't know the genetics as these are seeds from a clone I put in my yard and it had only about 10 seeds from the whole plant, thanks neighbor? The end product was fantastic though so I decided to try it for my first indoor grow. Three germinated, two survived. The first two pics are the male and the last three a female?? Just want to be sure before I axe him.

I can't understand why people would go to the trouble of growing seeds that they don't know the sex of, if you have no intention of breeding? They could cause problems with your female plants, and you've wasted time, energy and resources to grow them if you end up throwing them away?

Regular seeds provide more stable genetics.

Back in the day when weed wasn't abundant, males were used to make butter, or even bong hits after water curing.......I remember the first time I water cured.....maybe cured isn't the right word, but dried, soaked in cold water, and redried, and Iiterally saw a light resin frost all over it (large fan leaves were not included). And when there's no weed and you do a couple of big bong hits.....I remember being very surprised. And instead of using 5g of flower to make butter for a batch of brownies, I'd use 20g of water cured male leaves and flowers, and it was quite good.

Why get non-feminized seeds today if you're not breeding? Maybe on genetic principle? Maybe for the mystery or to be part of the process of separation, the way it used to be done?

I would. If I wasn't breeding I would still choose regular/non-feminized seeds. We don't know what could happen in future generations by making feminized seeds. It could lead to more hermaphrodites.......even worse if the seed maker does a poor job making them. Or maybe it will lead to other kinds of genetic weaknesses.......

I understand why some people would want fenlminized seeds, they may have very limited space, time, but for the most part, you can have males and females in a space, even if it starts getting a little crowded, by the time the males show, there's the extra space again.

I think breeders actually have an ethical obligation to not breed with feminized plants.

In my case, all the seeds were collected in Jamaica. I have no idea what sex they are until they show it. Not everyone buys feminized seeds.

Hahahaha sorry but the title had me dying 🤣 call me dirty minded if you want, Im too high right now... Lets put the best cover ever made just because since the problem has been solved already, some good vibes:

You have Jamaican seeds? Are they native varieties? Any % Indica or all Sativa?

We've been to Jamaice 3 times between 1989 and 1996. We are so due to go back ....

Out of the 26 seeds we brought home, 19 germinated. 8 appear to be Indica, the rest appear to be Sativa. We just hit the beginning of week 6 and I'm waiting for proof of gender. Fingers crossed that at least 4 of them are females.

We go to Jamaica twice a year - October and April - but this was the first time I've brought home seeds and germinated them. I have no idea what varieties they are or if their native to Jamaica or something else that the beach vendors are selling. Lots of herb coming to Jamaica from Canada.

So this was my first real indoor grow. The seeds came from a clone that was not from feminized seeds I put out in my garden. I got it from a good friend who has grown for decades. It was a Sativa dominant and got pollenated by the wind. It had very few seeds and it only yielded about ten grams, but it was better than anything I had in the past years, from anywhere so I decided to give it a try. New tent, new light, first time in organic soil. I think I did ok for a learning experience.

Some interesting points. I guess up until now I've been a bit of a philistine when it comes to cannabis. I've smoked it on and off for just over thirty years but it wasn't until recently that I worked out why I often get a stimulating effect and become hyperactive when I smoke. It's because those times I was smoking the sativa dominant strains. I've only just started growing and my decision to use feminised seeds was influenced by their ease of use - growing is already a complicated business and anything that makes it more simplistic is appealing to me. Perhaps maybe in time I'll want to master every aspect of growing and I'll start using regular seeds. I can empathise with the argument against using feminised seeds because of their influence on genetics. Don't all of these crossbred strains also have a pernicious effect on the genetics? There's so many different types of cannabis strains these days, with increasingly ridiculous sounding names, none of which have much appeal to me, so in that respect I am old school - I'd always choose quality Afghani or Northern Lights over some absurd sounding strain like Peanut Butter Breath or Girl Scout Cookies.

I agree 100% with the exception being that my friend is growing Bruce Banner right now and that has some intrigue to it 😉
