Checking here for heavy metals and other goodies in specific formulas is something I've done for years.

http://agr.wa.gov/pestfert/fertilizers/FertDB/Product1.aspx

some of the stuff I found is surprising considering the claims folks make across the board (both good and bad) when comparing/referring to certain products with similar compositions....like say....Jack's Hydro and Miracle Gro.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the data? Where's the component(s) that gives the edge with Jack's Hydro? Where's the component(s) that is the downfall of MG?

ive smoked weed grown with miracle grow and i have to say it wasnt pleasant. lacked flavor, density and was quite harsh. it was flushed and grown properly. it looked and smelled great but i was not convinced that miracle grow was a good idea to use for MMJ.

I've always heard the same thing, bigcheese. Such is why I use mostly guanos/wormcastings/organic products....

but my question wasn't if it was a good idea....I wanna know what difference folks see between these products and if any specific components can be targeted as the culprit that makes MG grown weed suck and Jack's grown weed not suck. I read a buncha threads here and the blanket comment made about MG was much like yours above. Just trying to figure out what the true difference is with the chemicals used to make up these formulations..... if any....or of it's just more stoner lore that has gone awry and keeps being repeated when folks compare this product to that.

anyone?

Don't want to hijack the thread here just clarification as best I can provide.
Sky the difference between Miracle Grow and Jacks is pretty easy. The MG is a fine product, however it is not a com;plete nutrient salt blend. It contains most everything, minus some micros and I believe lower Ca, Mg ratios than are needed for cannabis. The jacks on the other hand is a complete formula between it and the Cal-Nit required. It is designed to be used as a standalone nutrient complete with all minerals needed. MH is designed to be used in soil, soil providing some of the micros and supplementing Ca Mg. Simply put MG is not as complete as is needed to produce high quality meds. Outdoors in the ground MG would probably kill it. I know the Jacks does.
Hope this helps.

Peace

jacks works great! dont bother with buying conni if your gonna go with a AN line up you can just use the other crap that AN has to put together a better formula with the same ratios as conni; but as mentioned before the sooner people start switching over to water only organic soil mixes the sooner the whole mmj scene will be much happier with much healthier meds. Take it easy guys.

Thanks for the take, homebrew420. I see the differences in elements/etc.... but with much higher heavy metal concentrations listed in the Jack's than even MG...I just don't see much else that is different between the two. No biggie...just a surprise.

good luck to all whatever you use.

Don't forget to consider that basically everything in the world has some concentration of heavy metals. You do, I do... hell the soil in your backyard probably has higher heavy-metal concentration than any fertilizer you can find. 5ppm of a heavy metal sounds like a lot if you don't realize how tiny that amount is compared to what you're going to find in the environment.

We probably pick up more heavy metals over the course of our lives just breathing the air and touching stuff in public than we would if we drank a gallon of nutrients a day.
