So what makes the difference between a strain that is good for outdoor opposed to indoor? I know performance or perhaps to lanky and tall for indoor .. What should I xspect of a strain that has only been grown outside? Why would it be better out than in I guess is what I am asking? Thanks appreciate !

A lot of really tight budded plants aren't great for a lot of outdoor spots simply because of the mold issues. Some plants are big jumpers. And a lot of friends that grow out like to use strains that take a little longer, simply because they don't wanna pay the electric bill for a 10 or 11 week strain in. Sun's free!!!

Do you believe there's more trichome's produced in indoor? of course u have cleaner medicine because your controlling the enviroment. I am aware they grow larger outdoor ...and quality is better indoor . As far as potency is this a factor also? Thanks

I'm not a big outdoor guy but being from NorCal I can't help but to be around a lot of grows. EVERYBODY has opinions on out vs. in. Ill give you mine but I'm warning in advance its NOT an expert opinion. My thought has always been that outdoor plants have to work a little harder to thrive. Wind, insects, birds, hot sun, cold damp nights and mornings. As well as a lot of other factors make them grow bigger, stronger stalks and a lot of plant material in general. I always felt it hurt the overall potency of the buds. I'm sure tons of outdoor guys are gonna nail me to a cross after I post this but that's what my small mind has come up with over the years.

IMO there is more trichomes to vegetative matter with indoor weed.

Outdoor the trichs seem to take a bit of a beating.

Outdoor strains need to be a little tougher and able to handle stress better.

Sativas sometimes need more light and perform better under the sun.

Just my 2c. :)

the difference between in and out is in my opinion based on the length of days. the sun is the best and most powerful light you can have however in an outdoor situation the days get shorter and shorter until harvest. this diminishes the quality of the end product. in an indoor situation the light received is 12 hours every day until harvest. light dep greenhouses that can utilize the sun at optimum times of the year and keep those days of 12 hours of light are the most potent dope i have seen so far. but you have to time it just right. there are only like three to months of the year that you can actually get a 12 hour direct sunlight day. people that are half way through flower today in a light dep are killing it for real. plus you can control the dlimate more in a greenhouse. i think in any other circumstance indoor is better though

there are of course many differences. Spectrum of light is huge. Ask anyone using new ceramic lamps, as these are more like an indoor sun. Difference in veg growth from other lamps much more similar to the great outdoors. Plants appear thicker and stronger.

Trichome production appears the same. I have been fortunate enough to see a few both in and out there is nearly no difference. I will also note that in the same pot size the yield is only slightly better outdoor I found.

Peace

Outdoor pot, when grown directly in the soil, develops what French wine growers refer to as terroir. The synergistic effect of climate, soil type and day length combine to affect the overall terpene profile of the plant. Full sun interacts with the chemical pathway of cannabinoid development resulting in more CBD as a result of the breakdown of thc . That's why outdoor cuts have a warmer high than the same cut grown indoors. You can feel the sun in your brain.

I'm north of ptown a little and it's really hard to form nice nugs outdoor here west of the cascades. Sometimes it works but the same plant here does a qwap but east of the cascades four pounds. I just make hash with my outdoor.

ive heard that as well from someone using those new ceramics. he was saying something like "these plants have been bred grown and prepared for HID" and it would take some time to develop strains specific for the light source, or at least more accustomed to the actual rays it puts out...

Thank you guys! Reason being I have grown some outdoors ..as Zeke said ptown just not long enough..ended up molding by Oct.. The reason I am inquiring I will be testing some old strains that have not been tested indoors and just prepping myself ,,although the reason never been grown indoors as these farmers they came from are growing of the grid .. should be a interesting grow all input much appreciated... Is there a grow on here using the new ceramic's @homebrew420 ?

^ and just for the record i was speaking of the 310 W/620W fixture ceramic not gavita or plasma or anything

Good to know Aldeen,, i did search for a thread discussing this subject but came up empty.

I've got friends that switched out 40 1000wt hps for the new double ended ones and they are killing it. Much more even light distribution resulting in larger more uniform flowers. I think shit may be frostier as well. With out changing anything but the bulbs their yield is up thirty percent in quantity and 15 percent in quality. The trimmers report previously problematic plants to be less leafy and easier to trim as well.

Outdoor Rules!! :p lol

Plants will always get bigger and have fatter stems in the sun.
Most of the time the buds are bigger too.
When they aren't bigger, you get the same amount of frostiness as indoor
I think when the buds get huge the trichomes just get spread out more :) lol

@Medusa ; Grow some GSC outdoors! Its loves the sun! :)

edit to add; Aligee's Firedog gets frosty as fuck outside! :)

i think us hoity toity growers are at the point where frost isnt enough, we want double and triple headed crystals now, frost on frost haha
Would be nice. Trichomes are a girls best friend

We are. Better yield per watt by far. Plant are more densified in terms of stem and petiol. We are really digging them.

I am going to run a dozen or so varieties outside that I have seen over the years indoors. I will have a much better understanding of differences then.

Peace
