@Graywolf or anybody with experience......
.
How does rosin rate for you? Top quality rosin vs top quality BHO, Bubble ext.

I just love the rosin, and might even put it at #1. Just a great product.

Also, does anybody have a good industrial unit they could recommend?

I should mention I just began with the Rosin, and have only tried GSC, Blue Dream and Sunrise Sherbet. So my experience is limited, and would love any and all input.

Maybe we should just make this the everything Rosin Thread.

I do have a another question, can you squish fresh frozen material? Or better to bubble hash it?

Wouldn't FF cause water to come out of the buds?
I'm curious also.

I personally like well made Rosin.

I helped judge the local Dope Cup non solvent concentrates, which included some Rosin entries that need bow to none.

I knew it! The first dab I took of my gsc, I knew it was special.

@Greywolf What constitutes proper made rosin entries? I am working on getting some tech right now, but it's all in it's infancy. Bought a 250$ t-shirt press to start off with, but not sure what would make a great machine. I am sure the more pressure, even low heat and timely runs all add to the quality. Not sure a machine will really improve that technique much however. I am always ready to be proven wrong however.

I ordered up a bunch of Bubble bags rosin bags. They seem well made.

Called for fun, and the guy isn't selling presses. However he says that the higher the psi, the lower the temps have to be. He is designing his machine to run around 4700 lbs of pressure. I asked him to keep me in mind, and let me know when they start selling their machine. I am looking to purchase a quality machine, and if it's quality, I see no reason why it wouldn't last 20-40 years with tens of thousands of squishes.

I really like the Rosin tech compared to BHO, or even bubble for the matter. The BHO gear can be very pricey, and breaks fairly often. The pumps, chambers, ext. Even bubble bags wear down and require a good cleaning fairly often. The rosin is simple, pressure and heat. No toxins to purge, and a fantastic product.

The only advantages I see for bho is production levels. I think you could set up a large scale rosin extraction but I think it would be more labor intensive. Also from what I've seen return levels on bho are higher. Personally I enjoy rosin more than bho. Sour d and wifi make very tasty product

Rosin all the way, but farting around with the hair straightener is really frustrating. I have seen some nice looking presses on IG and I believe they are pressing flowers.

The standards are the same for Rosin as the other extracts. They are graded on appearance, aroma, flavor, effects, in addition to lab results. Two of the best rosin entries were a clear and gorgeous resin, with a third and best aroma and flavor looking like goose poop.

I actually liked it best, and everyone I shared those three entries with, shared my enthusiasm for all three.

It seems you basically just need a super heavy duty press...like for punching metal plates or whatever, fitted with some heated plates. Given the crazy high pressure, the actual plates don't have to heat up that much. It is an inverse(?) relationship, the hotter it is the less pressure and vs. versa. Doing it for personal headstash is where its at, so far it doesn't look to be commercially viable vs. BHO, however it is way superior.

edit: I am really curious about pressing straight buds. The allure of this to me is being able to make my own supply at home, that really isn't possible with may varieties of extraction methods. Got a bit with parchment paper and a hair press...curious how the "extraction bags" or whatever work and improve the experience. I enjoyed the end product, just trying to figure a good way to easily make it.

I've sampled Rosin made from fresh cut material, cured bud, dry sieve, and bubble. All different, and all good.

I made some rosin right when it was coming out, i enjoyed it, but i didn't like the slow process (with just the little pieces of parchment per little bud. However, i recently made some dry ice hash witha 5 gallon bucket+5 gallon wacky bag, and then went ahead and rosin'd(sp?) the hash. I placed about a gram of kief/hash in a organic coffee filter, and then wrapped it in the parchment and did the press with the missus' hair straightner. I'd estimate between a 1.0-1.5g of hash went in, i was getting a little over a half gram per press of return. Did a side by side with some BHO and it wasn't much of a contest, the rosin was ridiculously clean. Super simple for sure

OHHH shit! You just gave me a great idea! So I blast with tane 2x and then I wash with ISO... But just dump that threw a Gold Sieve Coffee filter and it collects Lots of Hash... So instead of using the hash I can Press the hash and get even more return... I wonder though @Graywolf would I still have resin in the hash after blasting or is most pulled already? Didn't know if you had any experience with it... You ever go to cups GW?!

I usually extract most of the concentrate using BHO, but have done QWET followed by BHO. I've never pressed any of the remains, but based on their appearance under a microscope, there is little left.

My concern substituting pressing for a second solvent extraction, is the solvent remaining in the plant material, which would have to be purged from the Rosin.
