Hey everyone, I was lurking for a month reading everyone's helpful posts, so I decided to create an account and introduce myself. I got laid off 4 months ago in July and felt wicked restless; some people get good at video games during unemployment, I decided to start growing cannabis indoors in soil

I popped my first blue dream beans from colorado seed incorporated on August 17, and they just hit day 28 of the 12/12 photoperiod today in my downstairs 2.3' x 2.3 ' x 5.25 ' spider farmer tent. I got super excited watching these ladies sprout, and spent money I probably shouldn't have as an unemployed man on more grow gear. As of today, I've got:
  • 2.3' x 2.3 ' x 5.25 ' tent with a mars hydro fc-e3000 LED, vivosun humidifier, exhaust fan, clip fan, and desk fan running 24/7, with 2 flowering blue dream ladies hitting day 28 today (pics with fabric pots)
  • 2x2x4' tent with GXi220 LED, vivosun humidifer, clip fan, desk fan, and c02 exhale grow bag because the GXi gets much warmer in that small tent and I cant afford to get an exhaust fan installed yet (pics with plastic pots, currently hitting day 5 of flower)
  • an SF1000 LED light hanging in my closet as a little seedling starting area (closet pics with seedlings - dirty bird genetics sugar rim fem photo, and 4 DNA genetics white widow fem photos -- day 3 of sprout)
  • I also have a little baby bonsai plant that I was originally going to throw out months ago because of space issues, but I kept her in her little pot to see what would happen and I'm very pleasantly surprised.

For nutrients, I've been sticking to the following:
  • in veg Ive been running the General Hydroponics silica, cal mag, flora trio series, pH down, and occasionally followed up with Recharge tea.
  • In flower, I've been running cal mag, flora trio series, Humboldt's Sweet & Sticky, and pH down.
I went a little overboard and got hyperfixated on the magic of growing and learning, and I am already running out of space since there is no way I will be able to grow all the seedlings I've sprouted, and my tents are both in flower. But, I'm having a ball and am loving the community spirit I find in these forums. If you more experience peeps have any suggestions I'm all ears!

Hey stereo_archetype, welcome to the forum! It looks like you really are doing very well and your ladies look great! My only suggestion would be to get into LST or SCROGGING. I will not bore you with all the information regarding these two ways of training your plants as there is a ton of information out there. I will say that it will dramatically increase your bud sites which will increase your overall harvest. Keep us updated. Happy trails…

Welcome to the world of never having enough space. I have personally set up 8 tents, I have 6 more...no room to set them up. I have retired and have taken on the hobby of growing weed. Good luck to you. What are you going to do once you get re-employed....

Probably one of the biggest things you can learn to help achieve a better yield. It takes multiple grows to get them right. I remember being afraid of doing these things years ago thinking with my luck they would die or something. But really, as long as there nodes it will grow. Good job on your grow!

Welcome. Looks like youve made good progress in the journey for only starting 4 months ago. Plants look good and anything i would add has been said.

Welcome to the farm! Great job so far. Only thing I'd suggest is to lose the domes once they break ground.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Merkle! I already dig how friendly everyone is here, so much more welcoming than places like reddit. I read up on LST and the screen of green, I feel a bit intimidated by the scrog because I kind of monkey with my plants a ton, and take them out of the tent for waterings and general inspections since this is my first grow and I still feel very much like I'm wandering in the dark haha. For LST, I bought some of those metal stakes but I was too nervous to use them because I think they would tear up the fragile roots. For my next grow, I have some fabric bags with pre-drilled holes + reinforced with washers, so I reckon I'll try and tie down some stems when I transplant my current seedlings. I won't lie though even though I've been running silica, I'm still nervous about tying them down either for fear that they grow into a giant bush that is too big for my 2x2 tents, or I damage them somehow. I appreciate your perspective!

Right on, thank you Florida Mike! how important is humidity though for seedlings? I'm in the denver area so relative humidity (outside of my humidifier-controlled tents) can sometimes drop as low as 28% according to my little portable hygrometer. Will my seedlings suffer any with the domes completely off even during nighttime? I dont want to put them inside my tents because I am using them both for flowering

Thank you Crazyformes! I want so badly to get more tents, scaling and upgrading the indoor grow operation sort of itches the kind of management-sim part of my brain that games like Tropico send into overdrive but I gotta hold off for now. And jeez I dont know, the job market is looking bleak right now, I just lost out on another gig after another dreaded 3-interview time-waster...so at least I have some more time to pay extra close attention to these cannaladies for the foreseeable short term!

Don't be afraid of of lst, you can bend limbs pretty far before they break, as long as it's in veg. You can do a gradual stretch. When it comes to hst, you are almost to a breaking point and you tie off. Some of the people I have seen look like they almost do like a half a snap for hst. Me myself, I pretty much top the plant a couple times in veg. Then when I put into flower, I take my net and bend all the tops sideways. The first few weeks of flower, the plant starts getting stiff stems to hold flower weight. So in that first week to 2 weeks you can bend and train easily. You can start training after a few weeks of veg. Your plants are stronger than you think. And your using silica? So your stems and leaves are supposed to be even stronger and thicker lol you got this

Sorry for the late reply,I just saw this. Optimal Humidity is 40-60% RH

My first grow I impaled the root system because I didnt know they were gonna weight that much and they got a bit stretchy due to lack of light at first. If I remember correctly nothing happened to them but man, does it hurt.... then I started to place them before the plant and now I just use a net and SCROG all I can without doing LST. But doing LST is one of the least stressful ways to train your plant. Wether making the planter wider after toping by LSTing the branches or passing the upper branches through a net is really not very stressful for them at all. Toping is, but they recover quick if theyre healthy and its considered HST not LST (heavy stress training - low stress training).
