Well, don't know if I really "fit" the typical grower?

I used to get high mostly in high school (to put this in perspective, graduated 1975) We had the most awful Mexican junk. Oz's were $15-20, but were literally sticks, seeds and leaves!

I'm a semi-retired health care professional (locum tenens only now) that rarely if ever smokes weed. One of my last times I got so high, I had my one and only full blown panic attack (story is actually a riot.. But that is for some other time).

I'm growing now just because I wanna see if I can do it and be successful. I've been reading many forums (and books) non-stop since December.

Currently in a 48*48*80 tent, marshydro 1200 led along with Growershydro 48" 4 bulb T5 fluro. Humidifier, heater and Phat farm 6" filter to Ventech fan.

Growing 5 Nirvana NL Autos in 3 gal air pots.. Soil is ~ 40% FFOF, 30% HappyFrog, the rest is added perlite and cococoir. Using FF, Roots, Botanicare nutrients.

Anyway, really enjoying the "adventure". I've got my college son to be my guinea pig.. He'll know if I got it right or not! (This is what I'm paying college for!!@#$&-(--)$%!??)

Thanks for your time.

As a health care professional you would probably enjoy reading about Rick Simpson Oil and the possible breakthroughs in cancer research regarding cannabis oil. Baby boomers are hitting their joint pain years and cannabis oil sure can help with that. NL is a great choice, where are the pictures? :D

Welcome. I'm new here as well. Growing has become a hobby of mine over the past several months. They say weed isn't addictive, but I can tell you growing sure the hell is.

I look forward to seeing your pictures

I'm not doing LST in those pics, just "pulling" down and out some of the buds on these early flowering plants. They sprouted on 1/19 so were almost 1 month. 1 seems to be slow due to the seed sprouting up about 4 days later and it was a "helmethead". I had to cut the seed off.... (Every seed was sprouted directly planted into the soil) Pics of my nutrients and tent pic... Oh, 2 of the plants are 10 days "younger". I'm using a 20/4 light schedule, these pics were taken after the lights had been off for maybe 1 hour.. turned them on to take the pictures. Temps running 64 to 80 or so, humidity is running low since adding the filter, I have it running on LOW. My tap water is approx 225 microsiemens, and abt 7.2 ph. Adjusting to 6.5, and when adding nutes I've been going at most 1/2 of recommended.

I have Bubblicious Auto and AK48 FEM. (non auto) coming in the mail, soon. I'll probably get 2 or 3 Bubblicious started, seems to be room in the tent? As you can see, in my basement I have this 50 inch wide by approx 10 foot deep nook. Fits in well, it's in my workshop.

Tips, PLEASE!

THANKS! (Oh, I'm pretty tech savvy.. but TOTALLY forgot about exif metadata coming along for the ride, thanks for that tip! pics are stripped.)

Seamaiden, thanks for looking at post. Temp wise I think its been pretty good. I have a temperature controlled heater (,in the very left corner of the tent by the intake, which is filtered) along with the 1200 mars LED it never gets above 81 and I have only noticed on the thermometer that it got down to 64. Mostly during the lights out period gets to about 70 now. As you know (and I've been learning) it takes a while to get everything dialed in. The last thing that I added was the filter assembly and that has really brought the humidity wayyyy down, which I think is okay for flowering but not vegging? Do some of you setup your exhaust on a timer? Even though I have the fan on slowest speed it has thrown things off a bit.

But yes, it is cold down there but a house heating duct literally runs over my tent and I have an adjustable vent blowing towards the tent.

I'm a fan of higher RH. I've never had it "cause" powdery mildew, which is the most oft cited reason for going with low RH in combination with temps. Do you know what vapor pressure deficit is? That's what I believe I'm seeing with the plants, an issue with VPD parameters. When they need to slow down transpiration they will curl leaves down and/or inward.

"Do I know what my VPD is?" .. The short answer: "NOT A F*CKING CLUE!" o_O But, I'm now going to read up on it. ;-)

I think at the time the plants were a bit over watered... they perked up after lights came on...

I'm still getting a feel for watering, that is too much vs. too little. Whatcha think?

P.S. Yeah, I would like my RH up... but my filter/fan assy. has really pulled it down. I'm running a cold air humidifier 24/7 full blast and still low. It's very cold in my area and humidity is very low in the air... 17 degrees out today, toasty!

I think you'll get it in short order. There is some information in the thread The Charts in my signature line, it should help you get your head wrapped around it. In short, VPD is the relation of temperature and relative humidity and how that affects transpiration (how the plant circulates water and food through its tissues).

Whats your watering regiment? They look over-watered at the moment. Also have you tried process of elimination like maybe shutting your fan off to control temps and then your humidifier.
Simple method of raising humidity levels would be to put a bowl of water in front of your electric heater.
For flowering I find 40 - 60% rh ideal for myself.

It will take a few grows to get things dialed in.

Indicabush,

My watering regimen is definitely a problem.. I don't have one. I'm currently just going with checking the pots, sticking a finger in an inch or so and then watering. They were over watered in that pic (for sure) after I had made up a batch of fertilizer and I was a bit overzealous.

Some questions? I'm using air pots (Ruth's Farms) and was wondering if I should fill till I see runoff? I did see a bit with that over watering you see in the pics.... ?!

2nd question? Looking at feed schedules, flushes are in the works.. Don't they ended up over watering your plants??????

Yes, I've been trying different things to get everything in balance, the vent fan has definitely thrown a kink in everything...

So do some people put their vent fan on a timer, say during lights out?

I'll try a shallow dish of water in front of my heater, the cold humidifier just "ain't" cutting it.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you on the Obama quote.

Looks like someone addressed the watering question, but allow me to explain a little more.

Example : 2 gal container soil saturation would be 1/4 of the container size and that would be the water weight of the container. Water again when container feels light when picking up.
1/4th of 2 gallons is 2 quarts...making sense so far? Add 1 quart initially and then wait approximately 3 hrs to add the other quart with your nutrients...this will increase nutrient uptake rather than wasting it and you never want to add nutrients to dry soil.

Now for flushing...there will be some debates on this...I don't flush because I use organic fertilizers and never too full strength. I march to a different beat about my approach to grows. Google flushing cannabis for lots of info.

Vent fan...15 minutes before lights on and 15 minutes after lights out should work for you.

Containers...well everyone has their own choices...I use 2 and 3 gallon black grow bags...black attracts heat therefore keeping the soil warm making for happy roots.

Hope you find this helpful, if not just ask more questions. We'll dial you in gradually :)
