couldnt help posting a pic of my roots, after 3 years of growing i have finally worked out the watering thing, and im finally getting roots , proper roots , and i think its down to a lot less watering , (and i only watered from the bottom) . i know these pots are not ideal but rather than ruin the roots im going to bury the whole lot. this is a spare so what i am going to do is run one organic grow and with this one i am going to use atami A+B for soil and use up all my pots of synthetic nutes, basically overload it and see how big i can get it...
i am sure this is why my plants dont reach full potential , because i am overwatering at the start and not developing thick white roots...we will see how it goes.

Just a thought to keep it dialed, about every third watering do it from the top. Think of the ocean shorelines, salt is concentrated at the shoreline boundary because it dries and solidifies in place at the dry boundary. So when you're watering from the bottom it can form a salt crust at the top. This should help even the soil out even better.

If I were to plunge the pot in water deep enough to fill the bottom 2 thirds and left it in there for a few minutes, would the salts be diluted or even run out when the pot is lifted out of the water and the excess runs out?

cheers dude, now its in its final pot i will have to start watering from the top ,does that work the other way round, if i watered from the top but it didnt always reach the bottom, would i get a buildup in the roots?
i just wanted to see some proper growth at this stage , i know it can be done... i can only think its mainly down to the temps, this is the first time my room has sat at 25-27 oC .

i am realising now this is why people flush 3-4 times during a grow , to at least dilute it and get it out...so that would explain why a lot of mine curl up at the end , because the salts have built up then i give them big bud or PK13/14 and its just too much. this is complicated this plant .

Salt crusts wherever water evaporates. That will help dilute, and if you're usually watering from the top, a bottom dip every once in a while helps to keep it broken up throughout the soil. I have had long veg plants where I got lazy with my drybacks and soil got real uneven and part of the reset protocol is putting the pot in an inch of water for about 15 minutes. Not a bad idea to do this occasionally with certain mediums, especially if theyre known for developing salt issues. (eg coco peat blends).

Except in soil we don't call it flushing, they're low pressure, high volume waterings.

The two most common mistakes with water is too frequently or not enough volume following dryback.
