someone should meld a UC and MPB together....
basically a UC, with a bigger res, with separate feeds and drains for each buckets
drains would be like an 1" under water level and no waterfall into res, just uniseal, so the drain is always full of water.
if the drains are the problem w/ the mpb's...any ideas on modifying the system? I'm on my 3rd run now... first 2 runs had the rot in one tub. not giving up though, i'm pretty sure a problem free mpb would outperform a UC.

the point would be each bucket has its own feed and drains, to and from the res.... instead of the passing through bucket to bucket.Im pretty sure the problem free MPB is the UC.
Why have a drain at all?
Most people rocking the UC have a top off res. Check Jack and Bens threads. They have huge top of res' hooked up to a float valve, making the system nearly fool proof. No drain so no need for check valves or gate valves. No need to raise the system. If a pump fails the UC is still full of water.
What is the difference besides the drain line?
I think that high levels of DO and nutrient flow are the key components to both systems. I think that with the same pump UC has a stronger flow with the same size pump because of the way the pump feeds. And with 2" or 3" pvc feeding the UC, there is a lot less resistance than the 1/2" feed for the MPB.

like i said it would be more like a UC. it wouldnt be rasied. it woudlnt need gravity to drain. and it would always be full of water like a uc. no check valve. u can even add a top of res like the uc.
I love your setup it is so clean I would put in some clean outs so you can scrub the pipes with a brush to get it all clean. Do you have a end cap if so you could take it off and spray the inside with a power washer this may work.
