Grow Log 04/27/19 (daily)

All but maybe 8-10 of my 31 plants in small pots will be heading up to the mountain grow this next week. Before they get too big to easily transport.

Just ordered a Clone King for the "Mountain" dep grow.

When I was researching cycle timers I read someone suggest a Titan Controls Apollo 3 (1min off/4min on) fixed cycle timer to a noob. The f^ckin thing costs $70. I looked into it further and found a huge number of adjustable cycle timers with good reviews for less than $15. I thought, "That's a real d*ck thing to do to a newbie grower." If your helping someone with info, give them all the info, such as, "I personally like the Apollo timers but there are much less expensive options out there." I'd have been pissed if I ordered that timer and later found out I could have paid $55 less for a more useful device.

The moral of this story...

Don't be a d*ck.

$75 (can only be used for cloning and not adjusable if you need to change the cycle for better results)

$13 (fully adjustable, with excellent reviews)

My plan, when the Uzi Cookies, Blue Magoo, and C99 sex, they're going in the cloner. First set will be Uzi Cookies and Blue Magoo, maybe some Jack Herer or C99. Second Set will be Kashmir99, Death by Kush, Jack Herer, C99. I might do a C99 and Chocolate Diesel dep since they both trade well.

I bought a cycle timer for the aeroponic cloner pump but the seller is saying it's better to leave it running 24/7. Anyone know? If its just a preference "I prefer" to cycle it to save power. If I can use 1/4 the power and and it only adds a few days, I'm down.

Man, it's so fun figurin this sh*t out.

Thanks

Yeah, I don't have my growroom built nor do I have the solar dialed yet so I put them outside. Since, at 800w, I've maxed out the charge controller for my 12v solar system (necessary, the inverter is 12v), and it's not fully charging the batteries, I decided to put the next round of cash into repositioning the panels to the roof of the trailer. The 5th wheel is 12v too so I decided to consolidate the systems. I found out I can have as many batteries as I want. They'll only discharge whatever the appliance is pulling. The trailer only uses a little to run the 12v controller on the fridge, water heater controller/igniter, and the 12v lights. The forced air furnace only runs during the winter and I'm figurin to have the system reinforced by then.

But that's still really awesome you're building your own solar.

At our latitude, if you have a clear shot to the east, your set. I've only been able to get the array fully powered from 11am-2:45pm and thats not enough. Putting them on the trailer roof should give me at least a couple more hrs in the morning and clearing the half dead oaks over my roof will give me more sun after 3pm. Adding those 3-4 hrs tp the cycle id absolutely crucial to making the genny fully operational. I wish I could do something about the 100ft+ sequoias and sugar pines bloking my afternoon light.

Ordered a dimmable Mean Well 100w driver and PWM dimmer to turn my 65w CXB in to a full fledged 100w fixture.

They got overheated and chapped yesterday while I was out so I backed the light off and directed the fan to blow around them. They are recovering quickly. They'll get up-planted tomorrow and moved outside. That'll make them stronger.

Dumped last years 3gal pots in prep for cleaning. Picked up 4 more 5gal to add to the indoor grow, for a total of 12 plants.

Now that I'm upgrading my single CXB to a full 100w COB it should be enough along the 200w CXB to flower 12 plants (with enough clearance).

My new King Cloner.

Here's why I paid the extra $30 for the King Cloner...

...the King Cloner has 3x as many sprayers as the most of the the comperable cloners. Some have no sprayers at all and just use fish tank bubblers. More sprayers mean more of the direct water contact that instigates root growth.

Christening the new piece. If you've been following this journal then you know I like collecting animal pipes. They don'thave to be real animals, neither do they need to be true to the form of the subject. Actually, the weirder they are the more I like them. It's art. Saw this on sale for $13 at my favorite smoke shop. I think it's supposed to be a cuttlefish or sea-slug. I love the colors, and as a bonus, it's triple blown glass. Palm size and weighs a little over 4.5zips.

All the Mexican shops had these when I was a kid in Orange County. The local Ace Hardware is the only place that sells them around here.

...correction to my last post, not "King Cloner", it's a Clone King ($100 w/shipping on Amazon). Sorry, I was kinda baked.

Thanks. In a few more days I'll clip the tops and some side branches in the garden to instigate further branching. I'll use the tops to test and tune the cloner. In a couple weeks I'll take more clones from the garden. Got people asking about clones and the dude at the hydro shop asked me for a list to share with customers. I need another Clone King.

Might mainline the garden.

I can see already I'm gonna have a lotta clone tops. Everybody's very stretchy this year from beginning outdoor during short daylight hours. But you gotta test these things, you know? I don't mind a little stretch on mother plants. Makes the clones easier to work with and they'll be shorter cause it's not due to genetics.

I'm gonna try to pick up at least one more light fixture for flower. But I don't think its necessary if I continue to run veg outside. I don't really know what I'll do next. Just playin it by ear. Workin out pretty well so far. Will get that new 100w driver around the 6th. The single CXB will finally be useful and capable of flowering out several plants, up to 4 I think. I hope the driver fits inside the case. Could buy another CXB chip/holder, dimmable 100w driver, and a cheap COBx2 fixture, then build a dual dimmer CXB 200w. Not really cost effective, but would be really cool. Hehehe. I think my best bet is to buy that $300 triple CXB on Amazon. Its got a 200w+40w dimmable driver. I dont know if they're seperate units. If they are I can wire the the 65w driver to the third light. CXB3590s are supposedly rated for 120w-137w each so I should be able to run 2x off the dimmable 200w+40w combo ballast. (((FYI, just checked Amazon and the 300w CXB3590 is gone.))) Somebody figured it out. That still leaves plenty of kits like these on eBay/Alibaba...

I just don't understand these kits. That 185w driver can't max out even two of those CXBs. Cree only makes "100w" CXBs (actually 137w) that I know of...

...so that set of lights is capable of nearly 550w according to spec. I'll buy the kit for $300, one or two 200w-240w drivers, a couple 200mm pwm computer fans, then grow a room with it.

...or I could just sell-out and buy a prebuilt 600w for $1k...

...nope, but very cool.

At that price range I'd be moving up to Quantums.

I've actually been debating throwing my plants outside to veg until I have the room to put them into the flower tent. I'm thinking maybe four to five more weeks. They're outgrowing my veg rack unless I keep super cropping them. My main concern though is bugs. I'd hate to end up with some nasty critters in the flower tent and then have to deal with that situation.
