Keeping Moms in Kracky Bottles

On one of the threads here someone @voltage suggested keeping moms in Kracky jars to save space

I grow lettuce in Kracky every winter for the past half dozen years. I've kept a few plants in Kracky but only for short periods as their growth is stunted. But so what, I've had moms take up a lot of space.

The idea intrigued me so on August 21 I placed 2 rooted cuts, Gelato 33

and a Mother's Milk

Into bottles of nute water

Aug 27

Sept 12

Today

Twice a month (I chose the 1st & 15th so I'd rember) I have to dump out the old nutrient water and replace but with the same amount of water or less. Kracky grown plants grow air roots and once established the plant could literally drown if water covers those roots.

These plants have been in those bottles almost 2 months and I can easily take 3-4 clones off each and plan on doing so tomorrow, Oct 15 when I replace their nute water with some a bit stronger.

I'm goin to keep these 2 going just to see how long I can and once a cut takes root I plan on putting 2 more in bottles making 2 new moms.

Just the amount of nute water that flows through those 3 gallon pots of coco to keep big moms is a waste and I'm keeping 5 strains. I'm very tired of flipping those beasts and trying to figure out where to put them and then I don't even want to think of trimming them. Just keeping 2 of each in Kracky would save me a lot of time and space.

There was one dude on this forum and he did full grows.
For moms its a great option but for real growing its kind of a waste to not pump it with air.
I had some in small pots and as you say if you overfill they live for a week and start drowning
Is that a greenhouse? Ever fought about putting a solar airstone?

I can't see trying a full grow in a jar or bottle. Not even an auto. Looks like moms are easy and this is a total time and space saver. A win/win. This is brilliant. Many thanks to @voltage

The 15th and time for me to deal with these crazy plants

They both got new, stronger water. 3/4:strength up from half ( per Master Blend tomato calculator)

I see mites and aphids and even a little PM. This is a constant battle. I'll make up a qt of neem and drench 'em, top and bottom and all cuts

Nuke 'em till they glow, shoot 'em in the dark

I honestly can't Thank You enough Now I don't wanna take long showers into the wee hours of the night together (Eastwood-Hamberger Hill) but dude, seriously, this just changed everything for me

Her roots are shorter so I didn't add as much nute water as was in the bottle. Enough for her lower roots but she need more root growth

Not much left but she does have two stems that should turn into 4 and I'll get a few more cuts while waiting for both their replacements, prual. Holly Sheet Batman

You have to take at least half the credit for using Kracky for mothers.

If it weren't for the back and forth with ideas and things that worked or didnt I wouldn't even have any in Kracky.

I'm happy to be part of such a friendly and knowledgeable community.

My greenhouse is 8 x 16' and on each side there are 8 2x2' sections. Usually I have a mom that will take up one entire 2x2 and a few branches will cover the 2x2's on either side. I can now have 10 or more moms all in one 2x2 section. Again, this is huge for me! As soon as those new cuts root 2 of each are going in Kratky bottles to replace the older mom. This too is huge as I always felt the need to flip the older mom's which gave me more issues to deal with like where am I gonna put them to flower? I don't want or need any more trees.

I have a 5x6 for flower and a 2x4 i just started adding mothers to.
Got 2 in water and 6 in dirt.

Was looking at grafting ~3 plants of 3.
def push/cut this back for now.

I'm Just finishing (mid flower) my first dwc grow.

Might switch to all hydroponics.
So kratky mothers make more sense.

Maybe i could also keep enough clones dormant until they are needed.

I'm going to switch to all mom's in Kratky bottles. It makes too much sense. I've got hemp cuts rooting so 2 of those will be put into bottles and BBHP cuts should start showing roots this weekend. Game changer

Adding to the collection
2 Cherry Wine hemp up front and 2 BBHP in back. The original 2

Mother's Milk in front and Gelato 33 in back. Both were topped 13 days ago and cuts taken

This is working well and soon I'll have 2 of each strain with the ability to take a couple cuts anytime

Here is 1 "mother" i just activated.
Those are new roots within the last 4 days.

Idk how old the plant is but I'd have to guess ~2 months.

Just starting to root. This weekend I should have another Mother's Milk and another Gelato which I'll add to the party.

This takes up so little space and I can take a cut whenever I want. I can't believe it took me this long to try it. Thanks @voltage

Missed the 11/15 update and changing the nute water

Plants are killing it and more G33

More Mother's Milk

2 more BBHP

I need 1 BBHP, 1 MM and 1 G33 and I'll have 2 of each. All these clones came from the plants in the bottles except for the BBHP.

I'll change water tomorrow staying with the 3/4 strength Master Blend.

Roots. They're all about to the bottom of their bottles.

I start them out half strength, same when I put them in coco and then up to 3/4 within a month.

The two on the right, MM & G33 were topped to make the clones last month. I'm keeping 6 mom's in a square foot area. 6 mom's use to take up 4-6 2x2' sections. Granted they got big but I don't need big 'ol moms to take a couple cuts.

I'll be adding 2 GDP. I can take cuts now of these strains any time I want. This is working like a charm
