Im no expert but i always thought yellowing leaves especially down the edges, was from potassium deficiency? this will happen if your light is too intense for the plant...did you say you had it at 7 inches away? one other issue might be that you are giving calmag with the waterings , calcium, magnesium and potassium compete for space on the root zone , so if the plant is getting calcium it doesnt need it might just hang about on the roots and block the mag and potassium!
ive had similar issues with strange roots, (might have been me you saw post about 4 weeks ago ) i have this problem with my roots not filling the pot , they stay small and hairlike , so i am only uptaking about a quarter of the nutrients, . ive narrowed it down to overwatering, or cold soil temps or both ? (or possibly the fact i only gave it 4-5 weeks of veg) . i had a hidden plant last year i kept forgetting to water and when i repotted it the roots were perfect , thick white and filling the pot.
soil temp is definately important, i noticed it first with germination problems, as soon as i got a heat mat and got the soil temp uo to 22 0C or above i had 100% germination and proper growth .

Light is 7’ off the floor and roughly 3-4’ over the top of the plants. Roughly 180 ppfd. The room is 84 degrees previously 82 degrees.

I’ve definitely tried most of the viable watering techniques. Drybacks to the point of neglect and watering at a 50% dryback and everything in between. The picture of the pot in question was dried back pretty hard most of its life. Hard for me to keep up with my moms at times.

I’m I in the twilight zone? I think you’re the troll. I’ve been very clear about everything I’ve tried. You call all the experimenting and effort tunnel vision? Many times you have suggested I need to turn down the light or give a dark period. What am I missing?

I hate to do this but its the internet. Who says youve done all that. Trolls are crazy advanced these days.

Dark period was suggested. Dont remember suggesting less intensity.

If my veg room and flower room are virtually identical environments and I change nothing as far as ph, ec, media water timing or dry back % and the plants get healthy all the way up to about 900 ppfd then what is it? I spent 20 years growing weed I would guess you aren’t capable of and because I have a difficult to solve situation I can’t grow. You’re sad man.

12/12 in flower room so they get rest. DARK PERIOD!

Just curious how do you think less dli is achieved?

Less intensity over same time or same intensity over less time.

18/6 at 650ppfd. Drop your vpd to .9-1.1. Ec could be lower depending on what stage of veg. Get yourself a heater. Lower ph to 6.0-6.2.

Edit: slurry test your peat. Water slowly.

You really don’t listen do you! Room has two heaters monitored via controller. Room is 84 degrees, leaf temp is 78 degrees average at canopy. Lower ec and problem is worse. I’ve tried ph from 5.5 to 6.5. 6.5 seems to be what my system wants, in my veg room that isn’t saying much.

Could you quote where you said you have two heaters? I suggested a heater because you said going 18/6 would take your temps longer to rise. My grow room has a portable ac running in it right now. Lung room at 73 and tents stay at 78 with no heaters. How is that?

Yes I’ve tried all that. I’m in a 65 degree basement so I struggle with temps. For consistency I’ve settled in 24 hour to keep environment where it should be.

Yes for 20 years all the cookie cutter parameters worked flawlessly. Hardly ever saw a discolored leaf. Moved to this house and added LEDs and coco and problems with all the parameters you are suggesting. Which has landed me here. Lots of testing. Some out of the box and most standard stuff that anyone would do in my situation. It always leads me back to a fallback system that kind of works. The problem recently got much worse because I built a new bigger veg room that I have much more control over. Took me a while to get the room dialed in and in that time things went downhill quick. Now I’m having trouble even replicating the weird system I landed on that’s always kind of worked. This troll is going to bed.

Hello Tattooguy8,
I wish I was a peat guy so I could better understand your particular issues. My first grow was coco coir and may be similar to peat as its basically a hydro run which I assume the peat is and I used the GH Flora trio for that one. I have only 10 grows after that that were all soil because the constant mixing of nutes just wasnt for me.
I would like to try to help although I wish a peat guy would help you.

What are you growing, autoflower, Feminized photoperiod, or regular plant?
What strain are you growing?
Are you making sure to have 15- 20% runoff?
Whats your runoff ec and runoff PH?

Current situation
Peat with 30ish % perlite Is this media buffered and ready for use?
Gh flora series at 2.0 ec. 2.5 ml of My understanding is you are in veg. and my research says 1.2 -1.8 ec is ideal.
2.5ml Cal mag included in ec Is this 2.5ml cal-mag per gallon of water?
Ph 6.5 5.8-6.2 should be where your at at veg.
Room temp 84 Are you using a tent in a 84 degree room or just growing in a room, reccommend 72 degrees F
Leaf temp right around 78 My leaf temp generally run about 2 degrees F above tent/room because light shining just above them, how are you taking the temp?
Rh 55-60 Appears good to me
Ppfd between 150-200 How are you measuring your ppfd?
24 hour light cycle in veg
Lights mars hydro fc4800 7’ off the As near as I can tell this is 7 feet off the floor and is irrelivent. Only need the distance from the canopy to light
At 20ish percent
Using ro water at the moment

I am not saying to change to what you have, just making some obsevations at this point for the run your on.

6.2-6.5 seems best in my environment but what do I know. I know the peat buffers ph and I haven’t noticed a huge difference moving it around that much. It does seem like the closer to 5.9 I try to run it the worst things get. Same goes for coco. I’ve never been able to run the usual ph in coco either.

If you didn't put lime in the peat it's pH is closer to 4.5

"Dry backs to the point of neglect" are the kiss of death in peat. It becomes so hydrophobic it's useless. Any synthetic nutes you had in there become a toxic salt buildup as well.

Good morning fellow troll. Lol. I lost patience with you last night and completely gave up. I'm back to help. Maybe your light situation will fix itself if we can figure out the nutrient and root problems.

I'm interested in the pH of the peat not so much your solution being fed. Can't remember if you've mentioned runoff pH. I'll ask the question but go back and check myself too. Have you done a slurry test on your media or have a quality soil pH tester? As @Grownsince95 said and I tried saying last night peat is acidic.

Next is the RO water. First question. Have you checked the filters? Second. Could the new water need more cal-mag in your mix? Or even the opposite. The new water plus regular calmag amount is causing a weird lockout due to ratios?

I don't think he regularly uses dry backs to neglect but tested it. But the way the roots are growing around the media makes me think the hydrophobic part is a possibility. I know it can happen in soil too and the fix is to water slower.

Appreciate the questions! I grow all photoperiod plants. Some feminized and some regular. Depends on genetics and breeder. I have roughly a dozen keeper moms I’ve found and or collected over the years. I’m also doing pheno hunts constantly with random breeders who I think their gear sounds interesting or with crosses I’ve made. I’ve messed with varying amounts of runoff so yes, 20-30% runoff. My old method was zero runoff with an alternating feed water water feed type cadence. Runoff ec is always higher than input regardless of strength. I believe this is related to the uptake issue I’m having. In peat my input ph is 6.5 and runoff ph is right about 6.0. Media is ph adjusted with lime just like most peat based growing media. The brand is Fertilome which is basically the same as sunshine #4. I went away from sunshine 4 years ago due to consistency issues. Sometimes I had to add more lime and other times there was too much and I had to chase ph accordingly. I have a flower room and a veg room. They are separate with walls made out of drywall. I used to be in tents. Leaf temps are generally 5 degrees cooler than ambient under led due to lack of ir and uv. Depending on how much air movement you have can even create a cooling effect on the leaf because of transpiration and drive the leaf temp down even further. Leaf temps are taken with an ac infinity laser temp gunim measuring ppfd with a lux meter and I convert the reading with a simple math equation. While it’s not dead nuts accurate like an apogee would be it is very close. Lights are roughly 3-4 feet above canopy currently.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. This is how these things get solved. Thanks.
