I thought I would put this out there to see if anyone else has solved this dilemma. My Sativa strain is rapidly finishing and has been turning purple for the last week, mainly on the bigger bud leaves but slowly spreading, at week8-9 currently. These typically finish long and with the purple coming on, have any growers seen any additional benefit for letting it go longer?. I know this can sweeten up the buds as the chlorophyll is dissipated, but I wanted to hear from anyone who has run these older strains past their turning point. They seem to get a little greasier every day, which is a good thing in m experience...I'm curious if anyone has tried to keep them going for any longer and if they were successful. Pics coming tomorrow.

Yes, waiting makes magic in finish, especially purples. I been running purple punch (Larry og x grandaddy) and first run pulled early. Second waited and it sapped out major Crystal's. Also much darker color and much heavier. The old saying "wait for the weight" is true for sure. Obviously there's a cutoff especially indica, where sativas seem to keep charging.. happy new years n happy trails. I love your steal your face, I love the dead

Now if the traits have the “purple” then it does show late into flower.
The production or lack of chlorophyll does make for a sweeter bud but the trade off is lower thc strenght.
If it’s purpled because of low temps then the yeilds suffer greatly.
All plants need the leaves to finish off the budding and losing that ability means it won’t give her best.
Purple is usually a indica trait and sativa can purple but I’ve found those buds to be weaker.
Hybrids However depending on phenotypes can benefit via temp drop to really bring out the bag appeal, does nothing to taste or strenght.

Triangle kush, half purpled and half stayed full on green. Yeilds great, cause; temps low in the late flower period.
All. From the same mother strain with no genetic disposition for purple.
Effect? Purpled ones are smooth week out of cure,, thc testing shows them about 1% lower in streght compared to same lot that didn’t purple.

I do give them about 2 additional weeks , the slower chlorophyll makes it harder for plant to finish so the extra time works. 10 weeks or more for some varieties to fully finish

Looks like my late season greenhouse re-stuff. Cold can make nutrient deficiency as well. Those still look like quality. Love to see even canopy, always some variation though. Nice work brother!

I bought Jerry's Limo that he made for his west coast shows in 2001. It is actually a big black Dodge that has the privacy screen, hookups for his guitars and stuff...it was pretty nice. A guy with zillions was bidding against me and I don't have that kind of money, but a quirk of faith awarded it to me. The trip to pick it up was wild and I ended up in Marin at Grateful Dead Productions...their compound with the vaults, studios, and a bunch of other stuff. A great story for another day.

I didn't know it slowed them or made them weaker. I figured the green was still there, hidden by the red/purple. Thought it was just the cold slowing them down. On warmer days they appear to be growing as fast as when they were green.

Besides the colors, i like how you got them trained. Nice and even with all big bud sites. Great job...

Thank you. This is my first tent grow but I used to grow and train roses. Weed isn't all that different in growth rate and structure so it wasn't hard to adapt what I already knew. It really is a fun plant to work with. I'd like to try to bonsai one as a houseplant but I need to make sure I have the right lighting so I don't accidentally flip it.

Sorry for hijacking the thread...let's call it a side trip///
Anyhow, back in 2001, I think, I had a bunch of extra cash that I was considering buying a street rod. A co-worker said that Jerry's custom made limo van was up for auction by his old limo driver, Leon Day. It was an EBAY/CRUSE INT'L auction, with the reserve set at around $45K. It was a 94 Dodge van with an extended top, a killer stereo, TV, VCR, guitar and amp hookups, a killer sound system, privacy divider, intercom, cell phones...it was done up nicely and only had 29K miles on it. Jerry used it for his west coast tours and Vegas shows.
The auction required that the folks who met the reserve had to be available by phone at the end of the auction. I found out that 1 other bidder had met the reserve, and his was a multi-zillionaire. He was VP of Intl Gaming Technologies...the guys that make the big slot machine systems in casinos worldwide. This guy was RICH! Here is where destiny came knocking. The guy had outbid me by $60K. At the time, cell phones were causing the phone companies add extra area codes to accommodate all of the new numbers. This rich guy was given a new area code but didn't update his information for the auction. At the end of the auction, they had no choice but to remove his bid because they couldn't get hold of him and awarded the auction/Limo to me.:p
Shortly afterwards, lawsuits were threatened and stuff, but I STILL have it and don't plan on getting rid of it, despite being offered 2X the original price if I signed it over.
When I went to pick it up in LA, we drove it to SAn Francisco and spent a few days with the band members, Jerry's brother Tiff, and his Limo driver, Leon. Smoke was heavy!! Another tale for another day...
