Anyhow, back in 2001, I think, I had a bunch of extra cash that I was considering buying a street rod. A co-worker said that Jerry's custom made limo van was up for auction by his old limo driver, Leon Day. It was an EBAY/CRUSE INT'L auction, with the reserve set at around $45K. It was a 94 Dodge van with an extended top, a killer stereo, TV, VCR, guitar and amp hookups, a killer sound system, privacy divider, intercom, cell phones...it was done up nicely and only had 29K miles on it. Jerry used it for his west coast tours and Vegas shows.
The auction required that the folks who met the reserve had to be available by phone at the end of the auction. I found out that 1 other bidder had met the reserve, and his was a multi-zillionaire. He was VP of Intl Gaming Technologies...the guys that make the big slot machine systems in casinos worldwide. This guy was RICH! Here is where destiny came knocking. The guy had outbid me by $60K. At the time, cell phones were causing the phone companies add extra area codes to accommodate all of the new numbers. This rich guy was given a new area code but didn't update his information for the auction. At the end of the auction, they had no choice but to remove his bid because they couldn't get hold of him and awarded the auction/Limo to me.:p
Shortly afterwards, lawsuits were threatened and stuff, but I STILL have it and don't plan on getting rid of it, despite being offered 2X the original price if I signed it over.
When I went to pick it up in LA, we drove it to SAn Francisco and spent a few days with the band members, Jerry's brother Tiff, and his Limo driver, Leon. Smoke was heavy!! Another tale for another day...

jn As a lifelong head that is a cool story and 100% believable,is there anywhere to view pics of the inside of van.I spent some time on the road with certain band members back in the early 80's and remember meeting Tiff, sad to here about his passing.

this is my first try with an actual purple cultivar, GDP.
Doesnt it look like I timed the chop wisely?

This plant had just the faintest bit of purple to it's outermost buds.

There is a story that goes with the limo that goes to Jerry's last show in Pittsburgh, where my buddy remarked that Jerry "looked like a ghost" when they played the Beatles "Rain" during a rain shower. When we went to GDP in Marin/San Rafael, the compound was huge with the backdrops from all of their shows scattered all over the place (bigger than a football field or two). There were paths winding around all of the stuff nd as I came around a corner in the middle of all this stuff, there was a couch. Sitting on the couch was Tiff, who gave me a "Hey Man" greeting. At that moment it began to rain, which Tiff swore was a sign from someone because it NEVER rained there in the summer, and here it was, raining. The comment of my friend came to mind. :)
The pictures are taken at GDP (Grateful Dead Productions) and show the van, myself and my wife, Tiff, the GD Road mgr and her husband, and Leon Day). The pictures are taken inside the limo with everyone enjoying one for Jerry.

Beautiful story man, I was lucky enough at a young age to follow the dead. Early 90s before Jerry passed. I’ll never forget the sounds, smells and the killer shows! I feel very fortunate to have been a part of such a grateful movement!!

That is really cool. Never went to a Dead show and was heartbroken I missed them before Jerry passed in what, '96/'97? Had been making plans and saving up money to head out to the Bay area to see them when I heard the news (even had a nice stockpile of cubensis). My friends and I got shroom faded at home in his memory instead. We had a little shrine to him in the corner of the living room for months that everyone who came over added to. Wish I had pics. It was a most excellent memorial.

The Grandaddy Purp that I tried was one of the strangest plants I have ever tried. The yield was pretty good with big and solid buds, along with a purple color when finished in cooler temps. It had pistils on it from the time it was planted from a clone and continued growing pistils, and not just a few, the whole time thru vegging. They didn't turn into buds, just pistils and leaves. When I switched to 12/12 it flowered normally despite having pistils pre-loaded. As I mentioned, the yield and appearance were pretty nice, although there is something about the strain that I don't care for...I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe the taste? Althogh I don't much care for it personally, I think it would be a good choice for a indoor tent for someone's 1st attempts, as it is an easy plant to grow and does well no matter what you throw at it.

Actually, I didn't look at your trichs close-up earlier. Unless that was damage from trimming you chopped it late. Most of the trichs in your pic are amber and/or ruptured. No biggie, still probably get you good and baked.

Well i def handled the buds roughly, explains part of it. But on the amber, there was plenty of amber on the big tops but not much throughout. A staggered harvest wasnt in the cards so i pulled the trig. I attached a pic of a bud from mid-plant

I'm testing out 10.5 / 13.5 light schedule. This photoperiod maybe did not agree with GDP. I might try it again at 12/12 this plant is very oily, and has a delicious fragrance.

I found a couple other related pics...one is Jerry's Limo from the back...I loved the wheel cover. The 2nd pic is me at the wheel of Furthur. Furthur was a psychedelic painted old school bus that Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters drove around in as they turned the country on to the legal LSD of the time. This bus was made by Zane Kesey, Ken's son, as a tribute to his father. Ken and the Grateful Dead (The Warlocks at the tie)started the psychedelic 60s at the electric koolaid acid tests. Interesting history that started all of this!!
I traded the road manager a ride in Jerry's Limo for a few minutes in the Furthur driver's seat. It was worth waiting 57 years for!

I think you mentioned that earlier in another thread, but it is very cool. I spoke to him a few years before his demise and he was an interesting individual. His son, Zane, is a little out there too! He was adamant about ANYONE getting on the bus, as he was constantly stopped and searched on his travels with his own bunch of Pranksters, and didn't want to risk anyone sneaking anything onboard. Times have changed!
How long did your wife date him? Any interesting tales?
