Have 4 mystery seed plants growing outside this year in some organic soil.

This plant is the only one showing these small yellow spots on the new growth and some of the old growth.

Anyone deal with this before? I have some neem oil ready to go but I don’t want to spray if not needed lol or if it’s an other issue.

Are you testing and correcting PH?
Often it is not a lack of nutrients but that the PH is off making certain nutrients not as as bioavailable.

Haven’t been testing the pH. We got some pretty decent rain last few days so haven’t really had to water them.

How would I correct it… if PH is too high or low in organic soil? Water til it run off?

That’s what I figured, insects… I will be spraying them with the neem oil tonight at sunset and see how they make out this week.

Any other suggestions alternatives to neem oil that are found in Canada ? This stuff is stinky as hell lol

Stippling is always mites, looks like thrips too. Sulfur, neem(azadarachtin) causes cancer throw it away

Micronized sulfur is your best friend, usually only takes one proper spray/dip to get you through the run, I do it early veg so you prune off the treated material

Damnit. Looks like I jumped the gun with neem cause I gave them a spray just now.

Will the micronized sulfer help with all the mites n insects? Any products u recommend?

Actually, azadirachtin is currently being researched for its cancer inhibiting properties, however, that said, I don’t like to spray anything on my plants, particularly if in flower. IMHO neem gives an unpleasant taste when smoked.

Neem should be emulsified. That's usually done with detergent and water, I think. I don't use it so I don't have the recipe memorized, but there are recipes online. For spider mites and other unfriendly critters, I use AgroMagen GrowSafe, which is OMRI listed and relatively safe. It also can be washed off with water once the bugs are gone. It's available on Amazon. It's not cheap, but a small bottle goes a long way.

Find out what you’re fighting before you spray anything! Do you have a lot of hoppers? Go out after dusk and inspect them and see what is crawling around on them! Get magnification and inspect the leaves! Etc. etc. etc.!😁

Thanks Chucky and everyone else for the insight. I do go out and see some flies here n there but can’t really tell what they are but there doesn’t appear to be too much on the leaves.

I sprayed them last night w neem oil mixed with water + Dawn detergent. They seem to be ok this morning but that stuff smells and don’t really want to use it again !! I will check them this week n see what we are working with. Need to hit dollarama and get a magnifying scope it appears !

So I kinda went ADHD mode like my normal self n took off the impacted leafs and gave them a little pruning. Let’s see where that lands me ….. eeek… on the ones I did take off I did notice small bugs on the underside of the leaves … my guess is I have to wait a cpl weeks before another insecticide becus of the neem oil?? But they look pretty decent, them n their other sisters (hopefully) LOL 😎 💨 ☝️

Next time you have the bugs in front of you try to make a positive ID! It does make a difference! Somewhat! There are three main antagonist of pot plants! Thrips, which are pretty easy to see, even with the naked eye! Same with aphids! And a few kinds of mites! They are tiny, but can be trouble! And need to be dealt with! Left unchecked, they can all slow slowly suck the life right out of your plant!

Thanks Chucky ! Appreciate your insight n help… the ones I saw were visible by naked eye and were dark… I’m leaning towards aphids but not sure. I will keep checking n try to snap a pic of the little suckers !

Thrips are easy to diagnose! They leave little tiny, black dots of poop all over the leaf!

That’s likely what it was. I seen tiny black dots on the underside of the infected leaves I took off … they wouldn’t wipe off. I actually thought it was some sort of poop. That explains it …. Little suckers !!!

What’s the best remedy for those ?

I I blast them off with Water repeatedly! Especially on larger plants! And when in flower! I have found it can keep them under control at least! I haven’t sprayed pesticide in four years! But my climate lets me get away with that! And back, then when I did spray I used a citrus base pesticide! I think it is a lot easier on plants! I’ve got a five-year-old bottle of pure crop 1 still sitting in the fridge! I tried soap base safers on small plants like yours and it damn near killed them! Lol! The plants actually like the pure crop! And it seemed to do the job back then! I’m a water guy!

That’s a spot on idea. I honestly been kicking myself for not doing any foliar spray on them consistently. I read that some people swear by periodic foliar sprays so il just start triggering them with water spray here n there ! I am in Southern Ontario , we been having a pretty hot summer by our standards lol.
