What’s up everyone, hope all is well. I am currently growing some super silver haze for feminized pollen, but in the mean time wanna play with some topping and low stress training. I’ve done topping in the past on other grows, and wanted to try some low stress training as well. Any ideas or tips on what to do with these beauties. They’re about 30 days since sprouting, I have topped them once about 10 days ago. Any advice helps. Thanks

Well, I usually don't do anything to them until the show their sex, even female seeds.
Then top, lst, defol or what ever I am going to it.
Let it recover for a week or so, then flower.
Just the way I roll, others do it different, not wrong, just different.

Damn, that’s quite a bit of waiting before doing any kind of training. I’ve done grows where I don’t train at all and have noticed better yields when I do some topping before flipping. But good to know, and the pots are only for the first 30 days or so until I get 2 branches. Then I switch to 3 G or 5 G grow pots.

I top around the 4th-5th node and I’ll start bending branches whenever I feel like they need it or I want the plant to go a certain direction. Did all that to this one and just had to let him go last night : )

Here's a couple of old pics of my way of doing LST. But i've waited till their in the final pot. Sometimes i'll top and sometimes i don't. If it's not a stable root system it will pull out of the soil hence i anchor in down low near the soil to hold it as i bend it opposite way. I did'nt top the last pic they are autos yes you can top them but i did'nt want to i like the central long cola but did start LST without needing to put a hold steady near the bottom like on the 2nd pic.

I don't think there's a single right way to train. I'd start with a picture in your head of what you're trying to make. When I top, I start above the second five-fingered node, which is usually the fourth. Then I'll top again every-other node above that. That will give me around the number of bud sites I'm looking for, in the amount of time I veg. The lower nodes don't get topped until they grow up into the canopy.

I'm not a grower who strives for high yields, I don't have a standard way of pruning, and I don't like LST. I watch to see how the plant wants to grow and make pruning decisions along the way. I also make sure the plant is growing well because some of them are slow starters.

my understanding is training regimen depends on a number of factors in order to maximize yield and/or grow height.

Some plants are masochists and handle being topped, bent, snapped, main-lines, defoliated, etc very well. Some varieties need a gentler approach or don’t take training well at all.

I’d experiment and try training one and leaving the other alone. Start by topping one now, and then top the same plant again once real growth occurs on the 2 new sites… usually a week or 2 later.

Maximizing a specific varietal includes a little experimentation, so your best bet is to try what works for you and the plant, take notes of any stress the plants exhibit, final height, and wet weight.

Little update, I appreciate the advice and I agree with all of you. I’ve done topping before and I just went ahead and said fuck it… added a few stakes and we’ll see what happens.. question though.
Do you have to leave the stake the entire grow? Or will it eventually hold its shape.

It should hold shape. Eventually, you may need to do the reverse and hold it up if you train them out far once the buds weigh the branches down.

Hello!
*I'm from Finland = i know my english aint 100% fluent but lets give it a go anyhow!
I started doing this 18 years ago and i got a profession in gardening so i could say that i know a few things.
As we speak i got this Critical+ 2.0 growing in a 150x150x220cm tent so i topped the plant after it had 8 pairs of branches in it and it grows in 24l pot (coconut fibre) so the point of this is to slow down the plants vertical drowth as it starts to grow wider.
So i use 600W SPNa light (with adapter = 250/400/600/650W) and i use low stress methods such as putting weights on the lower branches and i bend them while lights on 24/7 while they are flexible.
Best way is to ensure the schedule without rushing. Many people mess up their plants by trimming them too much.
This Critical+ 2.0 is unusually fast growing individuals - if you let them grow over 25 days before flipping the plants will be +180cm in lenght without topping. So i topped mine 2 weeks ago and its time to hit the timer on. (Crtitcal+ 2.0 is just a Critical+ full feminized mixed with another Critical+). The flowering time is about 65 days. The last time i got 450g of two plants.
During the vegetative stage i trimmed the leafs twice (and once a few of those yellow ones at the bottom) once before i tied the weights and once before flpping.
