How long should I wait to start training? Gonna main line these little ladies, I'm at about 3.5 weeks, currently sprouting the fifth and sixth nodes. Does anyone think that's to early to start mainlining?

You might want to transplant them before you start. Theyre gonna have a lot of stress once you start topping and chopping. So they might as well be comfy.

I think you could go ahead and get rolling. That is plenty of growth to work with.

if I did transplant, how much bigger should I go? Looking for a finishing height around 2.5-3ft.

5-7 gallon pots maybe? It sort of depends on your medium/growing style, I would flip them when they are around 12-18 in tall and expect a double in size.

the verdict is in! 5 gallon is a safe bet. Even though you're not going super tall, these ladies will be in veg a while and they need plenty of room. It looks like you've got a small space thete, so if you can't do 5 gallons, don't go any lower than 3.

I don't know if I am gonna transplant, I'm only really planning for 4 colas, I figure if I have 4 plants that's 16 colas(assuming all are female) so I'm not doing a whole bunch of chopping I don't think just a couple cuts, unless I don't understand mainlining 100%.
And even if 1-2 are female, that's 8 colas, something possibly close to a small/medium plant cut to 8 colas, right?

Are those 2 liter jugs you have them in? I'm no expert but I would advise getting them into something bigger unless you're going to start flowering them right now. Even then I would guess 2 liters of soil isn't gonna give you great results. But, I don't know much.

You might want to back off on your watering regiment, they look a little over watered to me.

I can back off, was just trying to get them back to healthy, left for the weekend, and they were thirsty for some water, but I think they've recuperated.

If I leave the node below the mainline and make it a mainline fimm hybrid will the two side branches make my mainline less productive enough to warrant taking off all the lower nodes to get better product and yield from just the mainline?

All this talk of mainlining is great.
I'm having a great time with it for my first attempt.

I will definitely be doing it again in future grows.

It didn't take long either.
I flipped at day 48 (1 month 2 weeks)
So it doesn't add much time.

And yes mainlining is the concept of creating an equal/symmetrical manifold to keep the nutrient delivery distance from the ground to each cola equal. This ensures even nutrient delivery amongst them all.

It also ensures the branches don't gain dominance over each other causing faster growth than the others.

Here's a good example of this

Since his branches are separated by an inch you can see his top 2 branches growing fatter than the lower ones.

In the end the branch diameter will allow much more nutrient flow/delivery to those top ones compared to the lower skinnier ones.
